Sweationg
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:40:28 AM »

I enjoyed a gig this weekend in a wooded park.  I was in the shade, and figured that it was the best weather possible for such an event.  I wasn't too hot, not too cold (not too skinny, not too fat - a real humdinger, and I like it like that).

Still, I saw a kid's Spiderman face half sweated into ugly-painting as I left.  (He was at the wide-open baseball field by that time).  I'm so disappointed when I see something like that.  Does anybody have any ideas for keeping out beautiful face-paintings
beautiful
in the face of
sweating?

Eeks - it's 3:30 in the morning :-)
Good Night for now

Hiya, there are some sealer sprays but I am not sure I would be comfortable putting them on children's face.  Face paints are meant to come off easily.  I am sure, experience painters will come along and give you their views.

Alison,

check out one of my recent topics. I have the same issue as you and so do many other fp folk.
I bought through Don Reed productions: mehron Barrier spray fixer and sealer. It's a pump;
2 fluid oz. I bought a dozen to get a better price. I use it on faces and arms and it seems to
help a bit. I haven't always used it, so I'm not sure how it is. I know at rainy events and massive
jumping pits, the kids faces did get smeary. On those kinds of days, I try to suggest arms, legs,
whatever...just not faces.

I also have used the starblend cakes recently to help in that situation.

Let me know if you want some barrier spray! Grin

Thank You.  But I'm so hesitant to use a spray near the eyes.  I haven't even been using the glitter-pouffers that originally wowed me when I first saw them.

I think I remember reading something about corn-starch, but I haven't tried it out.  Can't imagine it gunking up on freshly painted 'quick-next' faces still with wet-spots.

so you gave me something new to pass through my mind.  Barrier sprays.  I should Trust.  I should trust people who've dealt with the same problem and came up with a solution.  So I've been thinking about it...........

I would never add anything to paints, it voids their safety thingys - you are adding stuff not originally in the recipie that will not have been cleared in that way by the cosmetic researchers.

Ditto for barrier sprays; every parent (should) know f-p sweats off. You will have far more complaints if it is harder to get off than if it isn't. All of them advise not near eyes anyway and as a kids face is mostly eyes, skip it.

I would suggest trying a brand that lasts better in heat, there are a bunch of threads on this - basically Snaz melts fastest, on or off faces but that is as its so lovely and easy for parents to wash off. Or, as suggested, stick to less sweaty areas - which does vary on kids! Basically eyelids and cheeks is it!

Thank You Cat.  I didn't know why, but I just had a feeling that I didn't want to glue the faces closed.

So you're saying that if I just paint eyelids and cheeks instead of whole face
for very active kids on a hot day,
that it might last longer?  Be a great advertisement for my work
longer?

not to say that people who use barrier sprays are Wrong.
I've never tried it.  Just seems like something I wouldn't want.
But if it works for You,
well,
okay.

Still hesitant, but I would have an open mind if I saw a chance to try it.  I'd try it on my leg first, then, if I'm okay with that, then my own face.

It's been so hot out there.  I wish I could Barrier Myself altogether.

What Is a Barrier Spray?  Hair Spray put on the face?
(don't worry - I'm not going to do that)

I use the Mehron Barrier Spray.
I spray it on the skin prior to painting and after.
The designs seem to last the day and into the next.
I use it mostly on arms and legs. I am very careful with faces.

I just did an arts and crafts fair of the 4th weekend. Last year,
I had a continuous line. Not this year. I was so far down the path,
that I think most people didn't walk that far or ran out of spending
cash by then. There was a YOUNG newbie painter that did tiny cheek
art for a buck, but most of my regulars from last year, just passed her by
looking for me. Not lots of painting, but some solid leads!
