The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays to paint for and I'm not booked this year! Anyone working this fourth? My business was really brisk and now it's suddenly slooowed way down.

I hate to brag... but we (myself and my 2 assistants) are turning business away! My business is only 1.5 years old now so we don't have much of a track record yet.
The community we live in has a 3 week long Freedom Fest leading up to a huge fireworks show on the 4th. This year we got to paint at two of their events last weekend. The Board of Directors were so impressed we were asked to join in the biggest events on July 3rd & 4th in the heart of the city!! I am THRILLED!!! BUT... checking my calendar... I'm already painting at our local semi-pro baseball game on the 3rd... and at the Country Club on the 4th and my assistants already had made family plans. RATS!!! Oh well... they said if we can't be there this year... we will definitely be included next year. YEA!!!!! I LOVE booking events a year out!
Here's hoping your business picks up! Lori (sealmom)

I'm jealous! Never done a regular gig on the Fourth. But we are usually vacationing that time of year. However, our campground does have an art and craft show, so I set up shop there. My lines exist from beginning to end, when everyone else broke down their tents and are leaving!
I have turned down a few jobs this year, but it doesn't happen that often. Good for you, seal mom!

Yay for you Sealmom! Happy to hear that. I was a bit bummed last night when I wrote this, but thank goodness I got a call with some good news today. I picked up a new regular kids night, so I'm thankful for that. Just what I needed when I was starting to get worried about business. I usually get a bit worried when the hot months of July and August roll around and the cold months of January and February. My business has traditionally slowed during those times in the past. So when my phone wasn't ringing lately, my mind started working overtime.

Funny, because I used to read it as Chick-Feel-Uh. We don't have them up north here. At some point this past year, I mentioned it to a friend, and was told that it Chick-Fillay', as in Chicken Filets

I was thinking Chick Filuh too! We don't have them in Chicago around me. I'll have to see if they are closer to my area now.

Yes, I picked up another Chick Fil A, which is good, because I believe I lost another recurring customer that used to hire me each month.

Good for you, Sherry. Even if it's Retail (is it?), it's great to have a place where you belong - a place you are expected at regularly.

I'm paid to be there. Other perks, putting out a tip jar, indoors, weeknight and being able to have your business cards on the table. I don't know if I get a lot of parties from family restaurant nights, but a few. I believe the reason for that is that there are regulars that come to the kids nights, so you're seeing the same people over and over, but I do get parties here and there, where they say that they saw me at the Kid's Night.

Oh that's so funny, Wina. We can laugh together. The name of that place is funny.
