Can you do something with your rates????

A few times this summer, clients have asked if I could lower the price a bit to fit their budgets.
I know, Alison, what you think about this, lol. Sooooo, I understand the plights of single moms
or just affording my business. I give them a $10-$15 per hour discount.

Then I get to the party....there's a jumping pit, catering (RIBS and good stuff), Noah's Ark stuffed animals,
a traveling zoo. WHY did I give this discount? I am SURE the other talent/services didn't go down on their prices!

Just kick me!!!! I am learning. Slowly, but I am learning. When some folks recently question pricing, I let them know that other painters may be less, but there are several who charge more than I do., I explain that I am an artist with many years of experience, insured and provide quality work. They make the choice. I usually get the job!

I feel like I should be respected as a working adult. 
You wouldn't see the CEO of a big company stressing over a ridiculous request for $10/hour cheaper.
So I represent my business with Authority and confidence.

And I also feel like I should be respected for the honest help I try to give others.
When I post here, I sincerely try to share the conclusions I've come to
from years of experience(s).  Whether you guys agree with my opinions or not,
I'm glad to see that I am heard.  And respected.

When I see articles that teach people how and where to get discounts and freebies, it makes me wonder if they're asking for a discount for that reason.  When you arrive at a party and they have the whole shebang... there you go.

I only give a discount if it's a lot of hours, then I feel like it's worth my while.
