Customer calls
« on: August 10, 2011, 02:49:08 PM »

When I receive an email from a customer, I pretty much have my spiel down, but I can be stumped on calls sometimes.  Usually the customers will launch right into what they're calling about, but sometimes I get a call, where they ask if this is for face painting and then silence...

I'm really not sure what to say with that situation.  Just wondering if others have an idea of what to say, when the customer is particularly quiet.  I know I shouldn't say, "Why yes, we face paint, do you want to hire us?"  Today I received one of those calls, so I just started asking questions.  Ie. Are you having a party?  What is the date?  etc.  Still felt a bit awkward.  She ended up being pretty chatty, once I finally got things started.

The 1st thing I ask before giving a price or any info is what date they're looking for. I want to make sure I'm available before I waste their time on the phone, get them all excited to hire me & then say, "Oh, sorry, I'm already booked". If I'm not already booked, I then let them know the cost & how many kids I can paint in an hour. If I am booked I then send them to you Grin
