Hello from Los Angeles, Ca
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:35:02 AM »

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Judy and I am from the Los Angeles area. I have a one year old daughter (which won't allow me to practice on her) and a great husband who lets me practice on him! I am a student and a new face painter. I can't wait to get my first gig! I can't to the intricate designs yet so hopefully you guys can teach me something. Thank you!!

Hi Judy,

Glad to see you on here. Smiley  Do you have anything in the works yet for your first gig?

Welcome to the board!

Hi Judy!

There is so much great info and great people on this forum.

When I do an event, I bring my sample board. For you as a newbie,
make a board with five girl and five boys designs. Look at the many
designs at other artists websites and check for instructional videos
on youtube.com

If any design looks too advanced; break it down with less detail. Simplify
to make it into a design that you can handle. Also don't forget to use
the correct facepaint products. Snazaroo can be very affordable and is now
being sold at Hobby Lobby stores. Use their one item 40% coupon and build
your kit.

Need customers? Then get out there and do some volunteer gigs and make
sure that everyone gets a card or flyer. Also check prices at other sites,
and figure out a fair rate for your talent. Put free ads at thumbtack or craigslist.com
There are others, so do your homework.

Be patient. It takes time to build a strong business. Lately, I have been having several
weekends with no gigs and I had a very busy summer. It means I need to get out
and be creative with my business sense. Maybe visit some daycare centers and give
them deals that they can't refuse and EVERYONE goes home with a business card.

Looking for affordable business cards? Go to vistaprint.com or overnightprints.com
There are others too. At overnight, I have gotten $5000 full color, 2 sided and laminated
cards for $92.73 You can always order less and have the opportunity to change photos on
your card as your talent blossoms.

Good luck and keep posting!!!
