I started face painting about 11 years ago.  I had to sign up for a booth at our school carnival and all that was left to sign up for was the face painting booth.  Year after year I continued to face paint at the school carnival.  This summer I decided to expand face painting to a summer adventure and start a business.  So for the last month I have been inquiring, reading, and practicing face painting.  I find that face painting is my passion and I look forward to the work and the smiles I see when kids look in the mirror!!  Please share your story, your ups and downs and tips!!

Hi Nanci,

Welcome to our board!  Grin  I feel the same... that it is a passion.  Once I started face painting, after my family, that's much of what I liked to think about and do.  When I first started it as a business, I didn't get work as often and I'd find myself looking forward to my next event, hoping for my next event.  It's funny because even when I went on trips, I'd be thinking, "Why didn't I bring my face paint equipment along."  I'd start feeling like I'd like to try something and then realize, I couldn't because I'd left everything at home.  Ack!

Face painting is so much fun and I feel blessed to have found this way work.  Even when you have a bad event , it's only a few hours and nothing like a 40 hour 9 to 5 job.  You can go home, recoup and look forward to your next event.

Hello

I am a Art Instructor and thought why not add face painting to it! Can anyone tell me where I can buy Hypoallergnic good quality face paint in Denver? What are some good books to purchase?  It would really help:-)  Thanks so much!

Welcome to the board Nanci. Just curious, was the school carnivals the only times you painted, or did you do all the neighborhood kids for Halloween? That was my catalyst. Not all the kids, just my own. Do you get nervous before your events even with those 11 years?

Hi fellow artists.  I have been in this business for 10 years,  I mostly stick close to home these days and focus on my business. We are located in the Pacific Northwest.
I do very little competing these days as other projects are more pressing. I currently have been reworking my studio body art into multi media canvass works and displaying them in galleries, started airbrushing t-shirts (still learning), I am a techinical advisor and I am currently the Art Director of a local gallery. I have also started a series of just canvas works of memorial remembrance peices.

Still face painting and doing temporary tattoos (my main income source).
I teach local workshops from time to time and I also am co-founder of an educational program using face art to educate about endangered species.
My web sites are: www.timehonoredart.com and www.artails.com
Nice to see all you here, hope to hear some great conversations and ideas going around!

The photos are exciting to see.
