I am just curious to what kinds of venues and events everyone is working at. I know of fairs, birthdays, etc, but are there any outside of the box events?

There's some variety.  Besides birthday parties, fairs, farmer's market and festivals.  We're doing a back to school event this weekend at a Walmart.  I've done a promo for a mosquito killing company at a local baseball stadium.  A back to school bash for a McDonalds... A McDonald's Fun Day.  An orientation for a small college.  Moonlight movies at the beach, a summer camp expo... That's all I can think of right now, but face painting is great for so many things!  If it's a fun get together, then face painting is usually a hit.

Other than the usual, I have painted at professional (and non) sporting events, retail stores (home depot family fun days), medical center and hospital community events and park district parties. If you have kids in school, volunteer to paint at end of the year picnics. That generated a few bookings within a short time frame. Also, find out how to become a listed vendor with your city government. That can open a lot of doors as well.

Sell yourself to local businesses. In a time where people are not shopping much - you can bring in customers and keep them in the store for quite a while! They need us as much as we need them!
