Face Painting & Body Art Convention Feb. 2010
« on: June 30, 2009, 04:32:36 AM »

I'm looking forward to this convention in February!  They're hosting it in Las Vegas this year, so we've planned it as a family trip.  Me and my husband will be attending and we're taking along family to babysit the kids during the day.  I can't wait!   Grin

It's a PG-13 convention and is running from February 8 - 12th at the Flamingo Hotel.  For more information, I copied the person running the event's details and the convention website below.

Sherry:  Right now, I am planning to go to the Las Vegas Convention too.  I haven't registered yet, but I really want to go.

I hope we see you there.  That would be so fun.  Grin  I haven't registered yet either, but we're making plans and putting away money for the trip.  There are so many classes I'd like to take.  Definitely face painting, especially scary faces with the Wolfe Bros... I feel like I have so much to learn with shading and the human face.  I'm terrible at it and am constantly trying to improve my Hulk face.  I noticed they're offering balloon classes, so I'll be taking those too.
Looking at the site, we have until August 31st to register at the discounted rate of $275, so I think I'll aim for that.

I TOTALLY want to go to this! I was getting excited looking at the vendors, haha. I love that it's during the week, as well. I really want to see the schedule before registering, though...

Also, do you think I'd be good to take my paints in a carry on? Some of my Snaz gets goopy for a while, and getting through customs...time to research flights et all!

Yeah, I hadn't thought about how I would take along my face paint items.  Maybe calling the airlines?  If worse comes to worse, maybe they can be shipped.

I figure if I absolutely can't take them in a carryon, I could put them in my suitcase (I am a girl, after all! Who knows how much I'll bring back!?), but I'd prefer to have them on me. Same with the balloons. I want them to post what the classes are! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, haha.

I know what you mean!  I noticed Metina asked about the classes on the Snazaroo Google group, but I haven't seen a reply yet.  Maybe they're working on the class schedule?  It sounds like that's what people are really interested in right now.  You've got me curious, so I think I'll send an email and if I find out anything, I'll post it.

Please do! I'm checking the website pretty much every day...and am disappointed every time, haha. That just means when the schedule IS posted, it'll be a great day!

Have you been to a convention before? Are they usually big lecture-hall type groups, or smaller ones? I've never taken any classes or anything before, so I've got no clue what to expect...

I sent the email asking about the schedule and haven't heard a word back yet.

I've only been to one, and I only took a pre-class, so there are probably others that can tell you who have much more experience.  The one I went to was in a nice hotel with convention/meeting rooms.  My class was in one of the rooms, in a small classroom type setting.

I've been checking the website like a person with an obsession (not far from the truth!), and nothing's changed. Have you heard back yet? I'm hesitant to register before seeing the schedule, but want to get that August discount!

I'm trying to talk my sister into coming so she can split the hotel with me...although I don't know what she'd do during the day, haha. Margaritaville?!

Kristal... I've been packing a kit to travel with for years and since the rules tightened up.  I only take a very condensed kit - my kryolan 24-colour paint box, usually a small DFX/Wolfe sample palette and/or a cake of WB White and WB Black, a few of my favourite brushes, a ziploc bag of sponges with all the air sucked out (take up hardly any space) and an empty water bottle (4 oz squeeze bottle).  Everything else I buy when I arrive - I get wipes/tissue and all my toiletries when I get there.

I've never had a problem and I only travel with carry-ons.  Just make sure your cakes are dry when you pack.

Shannon - I don't know if I can and/or know HOW to take a condensed kit! I don't have any small sampler palettes (I've thought about buying some, but then I figure, why buy tiny amounts when I can buy big pots?!), and right now I work with 3 Snaz jumbo palettes, a 7 section large bead organizer with splits, a jumbo neon rainbow cake, a mini neon rainbow cake, 45 gr pots each of DFX black and white - I'm loathe to leave anything behind! Add in a few brushes/sponges/spray bottle...Is taking all of that ridiculous?!

Also...I have REGISTERED!! The schedule still isn't up, but I wanted to get the early bird rate. I am very excited!
