Hi, I am from NYC (Brooklyn, to be exact) and have been a painter for 8 years. I started right after 9/11, bought a bunch of face paints and walked into my local Burger King offering free face painting, put up a tip jar, and the rest is history.
That is where I got my practice! And that is the one tip I give all new people: practice. No way to become a face painter, a better face painter, an advanced face painter, if you don't practice. OK, a few of us have the "gift", but for most of us, it's practice.
I face paint at pretty much most events - birthday parties, communions, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate picnics, corporate holiday parties, a children's movie premiere, and a few children's high end boutiques. I often work with other face painters and we fill in for each other if something comes up for one of us or we might all find ourselves at the same gig.
Hope to be posting more in other categories.
Regards, Deva
