hello everyone!

hello everyone I'm Dana, I'm 20 years old and I'm a beginning face painter (even though I've been doing it on myself since childhood and painted for carnivals and craft fairs in middle school and high school) from Philadelphia, PA looking to expand my skillset and network with other painters.  I recently took a class with Philadelphia Tivoli of facepaintingtips.com (who came all the way from Australia and did a workshop in Southern NJ while she was in the states for FABAIC in Orlando) and am practicing frequently on Taylor (who is my practice head).  I teach arts and crafts at a day camp and plan to be the resident face painter there for any special events we might plan--including tomorrow's USA Day if any of my co-workers want their faces painted for the occasion.  I would offer to do it on the kids, but since they go swimming during the day I wouldn't want it to interfere with that.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi Dana,

So nice to see you on the board!  You'll have to tell us all about your class with Philadelphia.  I really wanted to take a class with her also, but she wasn't coming anywhere near to where I live.  When I first got serious about face painting, I painted on my little ones, but they soon grew tired of it, so I purchased a practice head... they're not as great as real skin, but worth it to have the practice.

Welcome!

Hi Dana, welcome to the board!
Which practice head do you have. I tried one, but it isn't the same as on a real person. It was good for getting the general layout, but it seemed like my lines and blending suffered for it.
I think the swimming would be great for you, then you get to do it twice, before and after the water!! Just kidding, I can imagine the multicolored water in the pool, eventually turning to grey.

I have a Rogue Planet practice head that I got on a discount makeup site...it's plastic so it's different than most practice heads out there (in that you have to do multiple coats of paint for the color to really show), but it's good for what it's meant for.
