Dry Skin
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:05:13 AM »

I am lucky in that I can frequently get older people
(like over 50 years old) to take a Face-Painting.
But I've been disappointed with the full face designs
on some of them - Sometimes the paint looks 'dry',
almost textured.

So figuring perhaps their skin is 'dryer', and therefor
affecting the paint, I tried just an eye-design on an
'older' woman yesterday.  It looked better, but I was
so surprised at how many times I had to reload my brush
and go over the area that I just painted = to get it to
be flamboyant enough.  Was the skin causing the paint
on the brush to 'dry while still on the brush'?  The paint
wasn't coming off the brush the same way as it did on
younger skin.

What's your experience?

I haven't noticed this as much as the skin making the design look bumpy, or the lines not going straight, so I've taken to pulling the skin a bit to make it look better, but I may be thinking of a much older person.

Gee... I'm in that age range and paint myself all the time without any problems! :Smiley

On older, wrinkly skin ( Shocked ) I try to use sparkle or interferenz paints (the are lighter/sheer and don't dry as tightly) lightly over the cheeks and brow (where the skin is smoother) and avoid trying to make lines in the creased areas...

I'm in that age-range too.  And I do have that problem of the paint looking dry on
my own skin.  I'd like to try different brands, but it would just be too much to carry.

So far, I just try to limit  full-facing on them.

BTW, I like wrinkles - Sometimes I can use them as part of the design.

I wonder if a moister makeup like I imagine Paradise to be would help with painting on dry skin.  I haven't actually had an opportunity to try Paradise yet, but have heard it is a creamier formulation.  Or maybe Kryolan... I have tried Kryolan, which I love and I felt like it was a creamier face paint than Snazaroo or Diamond FX.

Krolan is make-up first - it was developed for theatre use and has more emoillents etc in it.  Snaz and DFX/Wolfe were designed as face paints and are drier... you can tell when you open a fresh cake - Kryolan is moist looking and somewhat pliable (particularly the Interferenz) and the others are in most cases very hard cakes (until you add water.)

The cream make-up like Fantasy Worldwide and Fardel are very nice if as they stay slightly moist, are really comfortable to wear and stay bright.  FWW is so light on that I would completely forget I was wearing it (except for the looks I get from people!! Smiley )
