I just don't get it!
« on: September 30, 2009, 10:30:36 AM »

I ordered a couple hundred dollars of paint and brushes.....I am so frustrated!!!  All of the video's I've seen it seems they never have to re-load their brushes after every stroke, AND I DO!  Please, someone give me a tip on what I'm doing wrong.  I am using Wolfe and Mehron Paradise paints and good brushes.....when I sponge the paint on, it goes on great....but to do any lining, teardrops etc. I can only do 1 and have to re-load paint again!!!!!  I could really use some advice before I have to do all these Halloween faces!  Thanks Bunches

i understand the frustration, i was like that too when i started out just recently...i think i didn't saturate the brush enough, and was a little to gentle with loading it with the paint.  i finally found a happy medium where the brush is wet enough to really work up the paint but not dripping, i would load it til about 2/3 of the way...took a lot of practice and runny paints though...dont be too gentle with really working the wet brush into your paint like i was at first...it wont hurt the paint...it helps that wolfe really goes on very well with not a lot of reloading...practice is key laugh

The videos may be editing out much of the reloading part.

The trick to that is to find the right water/paint combination and you have to load enough paint on the brush so that it is saturated all the way to the top of the bristles.

I am thinking about making another video now. . .

Please do, Mandi, because I am VERY hit or miss when it comes to consistency of the paint.

I'm so glad I read your posts.
I think that this one changed my experience for the better.

The situation was that I had been reloading after every stroke or two.
Probably just a hangeron from times when I needed time to think of what to paint.
But it was an outdated habit.

Now, just being aware that I probably don't have to reload,
I didn't.  And I found that I could go on and on without reloading.
Surprise!

I add water to my cakes and use dry brushes - the consistency should be like liquid craft acrylic paints to load your brush properly.  If your paint is too dry add another drop or two of water.  And yes, I have holes in all my cakes!!

That use to send me through the roof w/fustration. "Now I outline line the face... put a cheek swirl... a couple of stars... three hearts... etc, all on one load up. I was thinking, is that a fountain pen or a paint brush?Huh?? I've taken to leaving my brushes loaded, not cleaning every single time. It gets really loaded, plus theres no chance of mixing colors up.
