So I made a video of how exactly I wet the palette and go about painting with the brushes and sponge.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!  I have tried and tried to get it right since my post of "I just don't get it" and this was exactly what I needed!  I just wasn't getting enough paint in my brushes.  I used to tole paint & used liquid acrylic and these disc paints were foreign to me.  NOW I "GET IT" I appreciate your video.......and your willingness to share without charging.    Rita

I am so glad to be able to help you!!! I like the comment about painting like that when you "grow up" ha ha. I am sure I am not as young as you think.

That's beautiful, Mandi ~  Thank You.
Made me think about my own techniques.
I go back and forth only when using split or rainbow type applications.
But I go round and round, making a hole in the cake when I'm just taking one color.
I hope I remember to compare the approaches at tomorrow's gig.

Same here.  I'm working a fair right now and after watching the video, I started trying out a few things different than I normally do.  I tried wetting the sponge first and I do think it's helping me to blend better.

I don't like rinsing the brushes and changing colors too much, because it seems I can never get the previous color completely out, so I use one brush per color.  I was pretty busy last night, so I had different colors and types of brushes so crowded in my holder!  I'm thankful for the busyness though.  My previous night, I didn't get a single customer.

Well I taught myself to face paint for the first 2 years then after that I went to the FABAIC convention. I have to say most of the stuff I was doign before the convention was WITHOUT any sponging, I just didnt see the point, and I was doing alot of cheek art before that and simple tiara princess stuff. So no I use more sponging, and I do 90% of my stuff with the #6 round brush so I just rinse and use again, I would get way too flustered having a different brush for each color, I am not that organized and I work pretty fast right now, so I am comfortable with rinsing and reusing the brush all day long. I got silly farms Brush Sanitizer, and although the water doesnt look perfect it is cleaning them, and if you let it sit still for a while the junk falls to the bottom and the water appears clear!

This just goes to show
that
There is No One Correct Answer.

We have several high quality professional painters here -
yet each with different approaches.
