Newby from Okinawa Japan
« on: October 22, 2009, 09:58:44 AM »

Hello all,
my name is Sally and I am new to facepainting. I have been crafting for years (mainly painting crafts and selling at local events.) Here in Okinawa Japan ,my husband is a US Marine and we are stationed here on our second tour.

Being on this island us families dont have much of a variety. I have face painted for my childrens school events and did it for free at close friends birthdays. Just recently I have picked up a few more events, some birthdays and a few jobs w/the base entertainment.

I have become very familiar with the very "basic" parts of face painting and I was wondering if there is a good book(s) or websited I can go to get more information of all there is to know. For example I have gotten alot of AWSOME INFO. From this Forum, but I was also wondering about other products and the pros and cons as well as tips on how they are used ... like the pressed powders, also what you all prefer when it comes to glitter, gels, loose etc.

I would love to get a book on how to get more familiar w/all face painting has .

ANY information or even just a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

and one more thing....... All those who have posted pics. You are great! I hope to be as good as you all one day. I enjoy doing it and love seeing the look on the kids faces, but I always have that "eeee it could be better" lingering in the back of my mind.. maybe when I get as good as you all (with lots and lots of practice Smiley I can rid myself of those thoughts Smiley

happy painting

Hi Sally,

Welcome to the board!  Smiley  Here are a few places where you can browse face painting photos: http://www.snazaroo.com/your-photos/         or        http://www.snazaroo.us/photos.htm

You can also research Youtube videos to see demos of different face painting brands and products.

Hope this helps!

I agree about the correct products! I purchased some at a costume shop when I first became interested and had a thought of, oh, maybe this isn't for me. Then I bought some Snazaroo and holy cow! Way better, now I am definitly buying more of the good brands, they make ALL the difference.

WELCOME! Grin

I totally agree about the proper products as well.  My hubb bought me a ton of
costume makeup" after Halloween b/c it was half price.  I was super excited until I tried using it.  wow!
What a difference the good stuff can make.
It can turn an amature into a good painter just by that alone.
www.sillyfarm.com has a ton of videos as well. On the home page, scroll down to near the bottom and there is a video section.
Have fun, practice and happy face painting.

Oh ya....welcome!
