eyebrows in the way
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:45:09 PM »

i was doing a design on my face tonight and i got pissed off at my eyebrows...i didn't like how my eyebrows stood out when i didn't intend for my design to have eyebrows...

i went to this site on youtube, she suggested "erasing" your eyebrows by patting them down with glue...yes the elmer's glue stick...

so here i am, in bed, with glue on my eyebrows, typing.

tomorrow when i paint my face again, i'd better not see these eyebrows...

how do you erase yours?

Urgh I KNOW!  It's so annoying sometimes I just want to shave them!  And cut my nose off too because that gets totally in the way lol.

Instead, I restrain myself and try painting them in white before I start the design.  I bet a REALLY good concealor would work as well.  I kinda like the glue idea though... Smiley

the glue thing worked....i simply needed a concealer with thicker consistency...(not the liquid concealer with the wand applicator)...

the glue worked better when applied with a little coffee stirrer..maybe a tiny spatula will do too....

I will post pictures soon....

thanks to kandee johnson's blog and video....she is lovely....

Ummm, sound like you had to wait for the glue to dry bf painting the face?
This might be a problem when you have a line of people.

Me - I have light colored eyebrows.  So I just paint right over'm.  No prob.
But I have come up with darker eyebrows, beards, etc.  Handled them the same
way - usually no problem.  But every once in a while....... I guess I didnt' look so closely
at those paintings.

Now I'm thinking that if I can't cover the eyebrow, maybe I would just accept it -
and That would be the way the design would go.

oh i wouldn't do it for line work...the people i've painted so far did not mind their eyebrows...this is just another one of my weird complaints...i did have to leave the glue on overnight...i would probably do it to myself when I go to a gig in full face gear...

You all crack me up! I love eyebrows, I guess that's the brow waxer in me. I try to incorporate them into my designs instead of covering them. I do have to admit, some unibrows drive me nuts when I am trying to cover them.
But a little wolfe fx white goes along way!
I know these brows aren't even, but it was dark, don't judge. LOL

Try these:

     1. Maxbrow finisher and clear. It's a wax and will tame most fine eyebrows and you can paint over
         quickly.
     2. Heavy duty stuff- Elemers washable purple glue stick. If the eyebrows are really heavy, shave some of the glue off onto your finger and apply w/pressure to your eyebrows following the natural curve. Go past the end, then clean off any excess. The best part of the elmers purple is it dries clear, you know instantly when you can paint over them, no more sleeping with it on!
There are some other stuff like spirit gum and brow wax, but I've never seen it done, I just know its out there. Hope this helps.

Who ever said that eyebrows had to be Even?
Actually, faces are more interesting when we emphasize that fact that
All faces are naturally different on the 2 sides.
Didn't you ever do that experiment - of taking one side of a face
and flipping it......

I'll show you:

Here's a picture of a boy:

<a href="http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/?action=view&current=straightboy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/straightboy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

Here I took one side of his face,
and flipped it over so you just see it duplicated for the other side of his face:

<a href="http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/?action=view&current=straightoneside.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/straightoneside.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

And here I took the other side of his face,
and flipped it over so you just see it duplicated to make a whole face:

<a href="http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/?action=view&current=straightotherside.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a256/BEingly/straightotherside.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

EVERYBODY has different differences between the 2 sides.
In this case, notice that one eyebrow goes up,
and the other goes down.
And he wasn't even trying to 'raise an eyebrow'.
He was just looking straight at the camera.

Since everybody and everything natural (people, butterflies, spiders....) are naturally uneven,
it looks more convincing if we paint things that way.

BTW - Those Pointy Cheeks are Yeow!

Why - oh why didn't my photos show up.
I'll try posting them another way:

do you see that one eyebrow is different than the other?

Since we're naturally different on each side,
it looks better if we allow that in our paintings.

Life wasn't meant to be so hard.

Wow, that is so freaky looking like that.  I'm surprised!  I thought I always read in my science magazines that the more symetrical (sp?) someone is, the more good looking they are.  He's a good looking kid naturally, but when you keep his face the same on each side, not so much.

I guess you have proven that people have a "good" or better side.
(Take a picture of my good side)

Oh yes - That's one of my main hobbies - noticing the differences on each side of the face (I'm a caricaturist, you know).  Beauty, the good-side of your face - that's nonsense.  Symetry is man-made - mechanical.  Forced.  Nature is graceful, constantly in motion, one point bouncing off another point.  Some face-painters (like myself) not only take that into consideration in terms of being relaxed about not being exactly the same on each side, but we even design differently for each side of the face.  If I come across the Mermaid-eyes, I'll post them.  It's like, the design goes up onto the forehead over one eye, and down onto the cheek for the other eye.

Here's another face studied.  Notice the eyebrows, the mouth, the nostrils.....

Beauty is graceful.  Graceful changes and graceful moves.  Natural like a vine.

Have you checked out the old Lon-Chaney make-up ideas for changing eyebrows (or anything else)?
