Need advice....
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:54:44 AM »

Hi Ladies,

My first craft show (job) is Nov. 28th and I am only doing glitter tattoos b/c there is already a face painter there.
My question is....
Would it be rude to introduce myself and have the face painter paint my daughter?
I was thinking it was a kind gesture.  Like I am supporting her....soooooo...maybe she can support my business.
Maybe help eachother out in the future if need someone to do a job with?

What do you all think?
OR
would that be rude of me to have her paint my daughter....like me testing her skill?
I am not sure how to word it.

Just curious if another artist paid you to do their child.  Huh?

Thanks for the advice.

It can't hurt to try.  I think she'll be happy for the business and make a perfect opportunity for the two of you to make each other's acquaintance.  I don't think it would be rude at all.   Smiley

i think that if you just present yourself and line up just like everyone else it couldn't hurt...you could probably say "I do facepainting too, maybe we can collaborate sometime and you can also try glitter tattoos."

I wouldn't mind if you planned on paying me the same as the other customers -
I mean, if I didn't even know you, what would I care that you Might be someone that I'd want to know - I'm there to Work.

As far as lining up with the other customers though, that wouldn't necessarily be important to me.
It certainly wouldn't bother me if your daughter did stand on line and act like all the other customers.
But I'd also be glad to know that I could call her over whenever I get a down-time - since you are both going to be there all day - right?

One way to try to 'guess' if you'd be annoying someone is to ask yourself how You would feel if you were in her situation.  Perhaps ask yourself Honestly "How would I feel if I was a seasoned professional Face-Painter who was approached by a Newbie at a Craft Show?"  It doesn't necessarily tell you how the other person actually Would feel - we can never know that - but it does get you thinking about it from the other person's perspective.

Hi - Hope your show was successful - and, that you did approach the face painter and have your daughter's face painted.  I, personally, think that would have been a nice gesture on your part.  linken74

Thanks for the advice.
Actually, the other face painter came over and introduced herself while I was setting up.  She was super cool and took my business card.  She said that if she ever needs help with a double booking or more painters needed, she would call me.  I was really happy that she was so warm and inviting.
Her aunt is one of the most famous face painter clowns in the area.  So, it was really touching that she approcahed me.

The day wasn;t productive money wise, but I made a new friend, got 2 bookings and exposure.
I guess that means it was a success. Grin

Yep, even when you're not making money at an event, just getting out there seems to lead to more and new connections.

I'm doing an event this weekend that came from seeing me at a flop event earlier in the year.
