Twilight
« on: November 20, 2009, 09:15:20 PM »

I think I know what the newest craze is.  The Twilight, New Moon movie.  I've been seeing and hearing about it everywhere, yet I know nothing about it.  I saw the ads for it and I thought it was a new movie out.  Then I kept hearing random people talking about it.  Tonight at my Chick Fil A gig, a group of teenagers were all ga ga over it and had me paint them all with phrases that had something to do with it.

Whoever's in the know, please let me know why these kids are acting like it was the most awesome thing before the movie is even out?  Is it a book they're making into a movie?  A t.v. series?  I'm clueless.

Here's some of the paintings I did tonight.

Face Paint. . .without the clowning around

Ok, its kinda like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc.

IF YOU PLAN TO READ THE BOOKS OR SEE THE MOVIES AND BE SUPRISED DO NOT READ THIS!!!!

It all started with a trilogy or saga of books that sold like wildfire and then made into a movie!

Twilight is the first book where Bella moves in with her Dad in Forks, WA and meets Edward Cullen who is subsequently a vampire. He tries to stay away from her, but at the same time,is in awe of her and can't stay away. She decides she doesn't care who he is and wants to try to be with him whatever the costs. They have a run in with another vampire who was hunting Bella. Edward and his family save the day and they get to go to Prom at the end.

New Moon is the second in which Edward decides he is causing too much danger to Bella by being that close to her and leaves the country. She rekindles her old childhood friendship with Jacob who during the time period of the book becomes a werewolf and has to spend a lot of time with no shirt on. Bella loves Jacob as a friend and spends plenty of time with him in this volume. After a miscommunication Edward things Bella killed herself and goes to Italy to plead to the Volturi, Vampire Royalty, to kill him because they are the only ones capable. His family comes to tell him the truth and the Volturi excuse him under the oath he will turn Bella into a vampire of kill her because she knows of their kind. Edward comes back to Bella with a llong sob story and a lot of "I love you's" and gives her a choice. His "father" can turn her after graduation or he will turn her if she agrees to marry him.

Eclipse is the third where the city is having a series of unsolved murders and they come to find out that the vampire they killed that was hunting Bella had a girlfriend and she is creating a small army of newborn vampire to kill Bella and everyone in their path. Bella ends up bringing the vampires and werewolves together to fight the new army. Jacob finds out their plans to wed while they are hiding Bella in the forest and decides to go fight and get himself killed. Bella kisses Jacob to persuade him not to battle and realizes that she loves him, too. They win the battle and Bella explains to Jacob that her love for Edward is greater. Jacob then runs away in wolf form to deal with the pain that Bella is going to be a vampire soon.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth is way more complicated and is in three parts. The first part Edward and Bella go away for their honeymoon, Bella gets pregnant and they come back to Forks where Edward's Doctor "Father" confirms it is growing wildly, and is very painful for Bella. Edwards wants to have an abortion, but Bella already has a connection to the baby and her pleas win him over to keep it.
The second part is from Jacobs perspective where his pack learns of her pregnancy and deems the baby completely unsafe for their territory and make plans to destroy the baby, even if it means to hurt Bella. Jacob renounces his pack and forms his own one with two others. While in labor the process takes its toll on Bella to near death and in order to save her they have to inject her with vampire venom to turn her. Jacob was present when Renesmee was born and instantly "imprints" on her, an involuntary action of finding a werewolf's soul mate.
The last part is back to Bella's perspective and some other vampire see Renesmee is an thinks she is an "Immortal Child", a child that will not age and is turned into a vampire and are uncontrollable and prohibited by the Volturi. The Volturi then seek to kill Renesmee and all the Cullens. They seek all other vampire groups they know to stand with them against the Volturi in claim that she is not an immortal child. The werewolves also fight with them for their protection of Jacob's imprinted one. The Voluturi realize the baby is not what they think and allow them to live in peace.

Thats it in a nutshell I read them all a while ago and Sierra is on book three. The last one is pretty thick. You have to remember that all the vampires have some special trait, like reading minds, foretelling some futures, calming effect on people, and they all have of course superhuman strength and speed. The Volturi have must stronger traits, as they are older and more developed so fighting them is complicted for newer campires. This book series is also why sometimes you see TEAM JACOB, or TEAM EDWARD shirts, etc. Before the 4th book came out the audience was unaware as to which man she would choose to be with.
Hope you understand now!

Characters
The Cullen family pretends to be a father, wife and five adopted children for humans to believe. They actually are three married pairs and Edward is the single one. They live off hunting animals in the woods and the Dad is a doctor that works at the hospital in an effort to help the humans as his way to give back for the others of his kind.

Bella- main girl, daughter of Renee (lives in TX) and Charlie (Police Chief of Forks, WA)
Jacob-childhood friend/werewolf
Edward-Vampire
Carlisle & Esme- Edward's "Mom" & "Dad"  Carlise is a Dr., Esme is not mentioned in depth
Alice & Jasper - Edward's "sister" & "brother" They are married, Alice sees the future, Jasper calms people
Emmett & Rosalie-  Edward's "sister" & "brother" They are married Emmett the newest still craves human blood, Rosalie is extremely jealous of Bella's mortal-ness

Lol - This sounds even better than 'Dark Shadows', the vampirey thing that I watched when I was a little girl.  (Showing my age again - Anybody else ever hear of Dark Shadows?)

Interesting writing Sherry - I can't imagine how you did it in Face-Paint.  I'm sure you didn't paint around each letter with white, did you?  But wouldn't the black pick up the white if you were just painting Over the white?

Was your success due to the brand of paint you chose?
Or how you applied the paint?
What did you do?

I did the background first in DFX silver and then the black was DFX too.  It does well in painting over other colors.

Mandi, I wondered why the one boy wanted me to paint "Team Alice", but I had a feeling it had something to do with the movie.  I'm going to have to tell my husband about this series, it sounds like the kind that he loves to read.

I loved dark shadows.  It was on just minutes after I got home from school.  We must have gone to school together----just different schools.

Yes, another Dark Shadows show. 3 pm after school. Barnabas Collins, Quentin, Angelique and Vicky? Some where I have a few Dark Shadows bubble gum collector cards. Along with the Partridge Family and many Charlie's Angels.

Oh, this is too funny.  Hello friends Jenny and Sophies.
I was so into Dark Shadows - I felt like I was at a loss
when Dark Shadows went off the air while I was in junior high school -
my out-there passion was finally filled again when I discovered the book 'Atlas Shrugged'
when I was in college.

I don't need an out-there connection like that anymore,
but I heard that some kids do it by 'drawing horses'.
At least, I don't Think I'm dependent on an out-there connection anymore -
Unless we'll find when we're a lot older that
our careers (like Face-Painting) were really the same thing?
Do you think Face-Painting is
a crutch that we use to get out of our own little worlds?
a crutch that to make us feel important,
like, bigger than the simpleness that Life can be?

I think that sometimes Alison.  When I first started face painting, it was like an obsession.  My ex husband had died tragically in a car crash a few months before and it was really hard on me.  The face painting was like a gift and gave me something else to occupy my mind.

Yeah - and we can be involved with people who are so impressed with us,
people who really appreciate us,
without really having to have a personal relationship.

But that connection with people
might also be important to keep us alive, involved with life.
Maybe it's any sort of a relationship that keeps us from fading away.
I think there's more to staying alive than food and shelter (money).

(I'm glad you're here with us Sherry)

I'd love to know more about the other people at this Forum-group, too.
It gives us more connection with each other - makes the group more than a bunch of individuals who are trying to make money for themselves.

Me, I had become an officially 'labeled' Artist since way back in High School (maybe even before that).
I found that I could seem important and confident if I could hide my social insecurities behind that label.
It followed me into Adulthood, and now I'm glad that I can continue to use it to make the money that I need  to be responsible (and probably to stay alive too).  So would I be liked if I wasn't an Artist?  Would I be happy if I spent my days never doing anything called Artwork?  I don't know.  I wouldn't want to try to find out - It would be like trying to find out if I could function without my legs or something.
