Letter to businesses for family night
« on: November 24, 2009, 04:52:49 AM »

Here's a letter I sent out at the beginning of this year to many businesses in my area.  Tons of them came back as addressed wrong.  I got the addresses from the internet, so if anyone has a better method of getting the correct addresses, I'd love to know.  I did end up getting one regular customer from the mailing and one inquiry.   Across the top of the letter, I had 3 pictures of cute kids with their faces painted.  Other than that, here is what my letter said:

Dear Manager,

Hello, my name is Sherry Craun and I own a local face painting company.  We offer face painting, glitter tattoos and balloon art.

Face painting is becoming popular as a form of entertainment.  It is an excellent activity by itself or as an addition to other fun activities.

Consider these benefits to you and your restaurant.

*Increased customers on your typically slowest night.
*Repeat business from customers who have an enjoyable experience.
*Creates a fun and exciting family atmosphere
*Happy customers.

I propose a weekly Family Fun Night with a Fun Faces artist offering face painting and/or glitter tattoos and balloon art.

All of our face paints and glitters are high quality and FDA compliant for cosmetic use.  We have high standards of hygiene and safety and carry public liability insurance for your peace of mind.

If this sounds like something you would consider for your restaurant, please give me a call at 912-674-1830.

Thank you so much,

Sherry Craun

Any ideas for improvement on the letter, or a letter of your own to share?  One thing I think I'll change is to take out the glitter tattoos.  I now think they'd be too messy for me in restaurant work.

Oh, I see  -  You're suggesting to create a Weekly Family Night for them.  That's a good idea.
But why would you want them to choose their 'slowest' night?

And would you be giving them your regular hourly rates when they contact you?
Or would you be offering to do it retail?

I thought they might want me there for their slowest night to help increase business.  If they advertise that I'll be there on that night, once people know what we do, we might build a following and increase business.

I'm thinking of charging them a reduced rate of $50 an hour with a 2 hour minimum.

You said alot of them came back. I would suggest becoming a member of a chamber of commerce for your city, you can usually request a list of members names and addresses once you are a member, and it doesnt hurt either to go to the meetings ans smooze with all the other buisiness owners.

I think glitter tats are too messy too, I don't even like doing them at indoor parties.

I would expand that it works for special events, grand openings, customer appreciation night, school fundraiser nights, etc. Not just a weekly gig, I felt I got bored easily of the weekly gig at a restaurant and I never was home on tues night with my family and alot of times I had to find coverage because of my schedule of other things. I look forward to chick fil a once a month now, not always the same crowd of people, and its usually full to me on what they call their down time, Sat from 1-3.

Thanks for the ideas.  Yeah, I'm surprised that the Chick Fil A I go to has their family night on a Friday evening.
