It's official! I'll be attending the FPBA Convention in February! I'm so excited! My hubby got this for me as my Christmas present this year, so I signed up before the prices go up. My first official convention. Woo hoo! Anyone else planning on attending?

Hey Mandi, yes it's the one in Vegas. I wish it was still in Orlando. I'm not going to FABAIC in Orlando this year. Are you planning on attending? Woo Hoo, Kristal.. I look forward to seeing you there!

It'll be great to meet you! Are you planning on doing any pre- or post-convention classes? I'm planning on leaving Thurs night, so I won't be doing any post-classes, but I figure since I'm going anyway, I should definitely do a pre-class! Now I just need to decide on which one...

I'm not planning on doing any pre or post classes. Also, I was thinking this was a 4 day convention from the 9th to the 12th, but when I paid my fee, it appears to be 3 days of classes. Am I right?

Isn't registration on the 8th? So far as I know, there are classes until the 12th - but because there's a competition from Feb 12-14, there are no brush/sponge classes on the 12th, since a lot of the competitors are the instructors, and they'll be prepping/painting then. There are meant to be other classes that day, though!

O.k. good! I guess I'll know for sure when they post classes. It looks like classes will be posted at the beginning of January.

The countdown is on!! I've booked my flight and hotel (finally), and registered for Mark Reid's pre-convention class - I'm so excited! I'm sadly going to have to leave after the last class on Thursday, so I'm missing the contest/banquet/all of Friday, so I'm just going to have to jam super hard the rest of the week...haha.
Sherry, are you checking your paints, or taking them in a carry on, or...?

What have you heard about flying with paints? From the things I've heard online, I thought it would be best to send with my luggage and not take as a carry on. Is that the impression you're coming away with? I don't think I'd want to carry my supplies on anyway.
I haven't flown since 2004, so I don't have any experience with all the new restrictions.
We're staying until Friday, but we're leaving super early on a 6:00 a.m. flight.

I'm a bit nervy about putting my paints in my checked luggage. A) they are SO rough! B)I know it's only one flight, no stops - but sometimes your luggage just doesn't get to where you are. I'm taking a pre-class, so if I don't have paints I'm hooped because the vendor's room isn't open until Monday afternoon/evening. I'm likely (probably - hopefully!) just being overly cautious, but I'm thinking of Fed-Exing a mini kit to the hotel so it's there when I get there...
Shannon at some point I think had mentioned always travelling with only a carry on, and therefore had her paints in there. But what with restrictions now...I spoke with my airline (I'm flying out of Bellingham - Canada to the US right now has restrictions on what you can carry on at all), and they said the paints may be considered a gel (yes, even though they're pretty solid, because they'd leave an indent if you pressed a finger in?) so I could use individual 3 oz bottles, but I shouldn't trust that a mini palette would make it through.
I wanted to take them in my carry on, but not if there's a chance they'll get chucked!

So they will trash anything they don't approve of in your carryon? I may only carry a purse then.
Looks like I have a lot to look into before heading out. My oldest son flies a lot, so I'll have to quiz him a bit too.

So far as I understand, yes. Someone mentioned a painter's brushes getting chucked, and (not fp related) I know people who have had Swiss Army Knives and even nail clippers thrown out. I got a link to www.tsa.gov - haven't read it properly yet but I think it'll clarify? My parent's left town this morning, going to HK via the States - and reminded them (pretty much) last minute about carryon rules - their pockets are stuffed now, haha. (Also, they're CAN - US, which is different than domestic...)

The Las Vegas convention is on in two weeks!! I don't know how you will be able to choose from all of the amazing teachers. Pashur, Mark Reid, the Wolfe Brothers, Lisa Smiley, Jodi Carr, and MANY more. You can see the whole list here http://www.fpbaconvention.com/2010/instructors.html On Wednesday morning, from 10:45 - 12:15, in the middle of some of the most wonderful classes, I will be facilitating a workshop, "50 Tips and Tidbits to Boost Your Income." The goal of the workshop is to send you home with at 50 tidbits specific to YOU and your business that will get your phone to ring. You don't need your paints, just a paper and pen to gather in all of the ideas you will be taking home. Based on a book I wrote called "500 Tips and Tidbits to Boost Your Income, Inexpensive Rainmaking Ideas in Dry Times. Marketing Tips For Family Entertainers." http://www.funfacepainting.com/books.html I am very glad I don't need to choose which of the workshops I will attend, well, at least not on Wednesday morning, from 10:45 - 12:15! Every day is packed with all kinds of great classes, it will be hard to decide! See you in Vegas! - Lilly Walters, 909-398-1228 Henna Tattoo Artist, Face and Pregnant Belly Painter http://www.funfacepainting.com
