My events last weekend
« on: December 03, 2009, 06:43:25 AM »

I did a Farmer's Market last Friday.  I was there from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.  They normally charge $30 a day at this market which runs from 3 - 8 p.m.  Since it was black Friday, they were open all day and charging $50.  I backed out of it, thinking I wouldn't be able to make anything.  They offered it for $30, because they really wanted me out there, so I agreed.  Not good.

I was out there all day and only made $45 total.  I was rather discouraged by that, so I'm starting to think Farmer's Markets may not be the best place for face painting.  I still have 3 more weekends paid ahead at another market to go to, so we'll see if things pick up.

Saturday night I had a Tree Lighting Festival to go to about an hour and half away.  This one was free, so I really had nothing to lose, but I was a bit discouraged from the day before and had a feeling that I wanted to back out.  Plus it was cold and a night event and me with no lights for my tent.  Good thing I went!  I ended up being busy from beginning to end and the Festival Promoters brought me lights, so everything worked out for the better.  Yes!   Grin

Here are some pics from these events.

I guess you just never know.
But, I can see a tree lighing being busy.  Tons of kids with parents in the Christmas spirit. angel

Love the photos.

Face Paint. . .without the clowning around

Christmas festivals are my best events around here.
I have also tried the flea market venues with no luck, I think that when people have a reason for a celebration they can rationalize getting their kids face painted, but if they are just stopping by to go some tomatoes and look for chairs, they don't get painted because it's not an "EVENT" so it doesn't warrant the painting expense and hassle afterwards.

Just my thoughts, I am getting tired of trying to paint at places where people wouldn't normally get painted,  like I did a kids night for a while at cici's pizza. I was not paid to be there but I was just starting out and figured I needed the exposure and I set out a tip jar trying to get a few bucks. So many parents said,
"no we are just going to wash it off when we get home!"
or "Its a school night"

Drove me nuts, there was no way to convince them.

So let's just look at this as 'paying for your education'.
But need we all pay the same thing?

Did you do the other Farmers' Markets yet.
Did they turn out good or bad?

I have 3 more weekends paid for the farmer's market near me, but I didn't even go yesterday.  I'm glad because it was cold and rained all day.  I think I'm going to hold off until the end of February when things start warming up again.

When you end up going back Sherry,
I hope you'll remember to report to us
about your Farmer's Market.

Maybe times will change.
Or word might have gotten out about
how good you are.
Or maybe not.  Maybe it's just like Mandi says,
that people aren't looking to have fun when they're
doing their shopping.
Let's see......
