Free to set up event today a bust!
« on: December 05, 2009, 05:49:51 PM »

I did an event today, that was free to set up, but not so profitable.  It was raining to start off and it was chilly, but the rain cleared up, so I'm not sure why I didn't get any business.  I did my tree lighting ceremony last week and it was cold and dark and I still had a line.

There were tons of kids there today too.  Who can figure out these things?  Not me.  I had one paying customer all day.  Then the Ripley's guy who asked me out there felt sorry for me and had me do the next 6 faces on him.  As soon as they heard it was free I was swarmed, but as soon as I finished the free, on the house faces, they cleared out.

I decided I'd spent too much time there, not making anything and packed it in.  And guess what happened as soon as I started packing up?  Two people came up wanting face painted.   Cheesy

Hi Sherry ~  How are you ~  As much as I need money, I think that people 'feeling sorry for us' at a bad event
is worse than not making money that day.

Oh man, that sucks.  Sorry it was such a bad turn out.  I wish there was a formula for these things too.
But, I guess live and learn.

I think it was nice the guy paid for some kids to get painted.  Maybe look at it as not charity, but having to see some smiles on  a few extra kids.  Maybe he realized how much the kids wanted to get their faces painted but the parents just not willing to pay.   angel

Either way, it is always disappointing when you facor your time and energy into something and realize you only make .50 an hour.  haha  Kinda like being back in the 1920's.

Much success at the next event.
