Winter slow down
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:32:38 PM »

Well, it's getting cold here: mid 40's. Hey, thats cold for south Georgia! Anyway, I was wondering how much of a slow down other people have when winter sets in, or if there is any at all. The resturant and company parties are still there, but I have noticed a marked decrease in Birthday parties. Is anyone marketing differently because of the weather?

Starting in November, I go out as an elf or Mrs. Santa.  These jobs don't always involve face painting, but sometimes they do.  I did one job this past weekend where I did balloons and just goofed off doing silly stuff with the kids in the morning as an elf and then I did a face painting job as an elf in the afternoon.  I have only face painted one time as Mrs. Santa and the rest of the time I just sit and talk with the children, help Santa pass out gifts, have photo taken (one time for 2 1/2 hours, one right after the other), tell stories, etc.

Hi Fancy... Do you charge the same as Mrs. Claus and Elf as you do for your normal face painting?  Just Curious.

Normally when I am working those jobs, I am working for someone else and I get about $25.00 less per job than I normally charge.  Sometimes, though they will put in a trip charge so it comes out to be the same as I would normally charge.  The first year that I worked for them, they were paying me more than what I was charging, but then I increased my rate, so now we are about the same.

December is usually pretty busy with the corporate parties.  Then usually there is a Jan/Feb slump for face painting, but, it is busy season for theatre then, so I am always working on something.

And... cold... Huh? It was the "mid 40s" here yesterday too........ MINUS 44C!!!!!!!!!  and is -39C right now... and I was out in it yesterday going to a party... unloading the car in that cold was HORRID!!  It burns!

I posted a screen shot of the weather stats on my blog...
