Tips for green nails?
« on: December 20, 2009, 07:19:39 AM »

I've had back to back events where I used green and blue a lot and now I can't get the green off my nails.  Anyone have anything special they do to either keep it from happening or to clean it after the fact?  It's so embarassing when I think people will be looking at my hands. Embarrassed

A pack of sugar and some olive oil make a scrub and rub, rub, rub.

Nail Polish remover may do the trick also.

Avon makes this product called Silicone Glove that if you put the lotion on a few times while painting it tends to keep the stains from getting in your skin in the first place.

Neutrigena (sp) Makes a Norwegian formula hand cream that you put on your hands before you paint, and it works like the invisible glove to keep the paint from setting into your skin and cracks in your skin.  This works very well for me and is easy to carry in my kit.  This tip comes from Jodi Carr originally.

It really helps to keep your hands moisturized to keep the paints from staining.  After staining it's whatever works on your skin and a scrub brush and many times it will take time.  I like the olive oil suggestion.

I just wouldn't use it.
If I have to worry about 'protecting myself' from some aspect of a product,
I wouldn't put it on other people.

I know this is a problem when I'm working beside another Artist who uses those beautiful colors,
but I do well enough.  I don't have to be so competitive that I'd have to compromise my integrity.

Different colors act different.  Greens and blues are of smaller size....they are smaller particles then whites, or reds for instance (I wish I knew how to better explain that). That is why those particles can get into your upper skin area and they stain more.  The dryer the skin, the easier to stain.  That's why if you moisturize your skin it's less likely to stain, because there are less area for the color to seep into.  The colors are safe, but moisturizing is recommended.

Remember the story of the professor who filled a jar with rocks and asked if the jar was full?
Then he added small pebbles until no more would fit and he asked if the jar was full?
Then he added sand until no more would fit and again asked if the jar was full?
Then once again he poured more into the jar, this time water, and again asked is the jar full?

Now I'm sure everyone is confused.

Thanks

Jenny

So, I guess your fingernails are all clean again, Sherry?
Funny how we can agonize
and do all sorts of things to fix a situation
or not
and it would take care of itself anyway
even if we ignored it.
