Contacted by local artists

I've been contacted by local artists or companies a few times talking about the possibility of doing something together and then I never hear from them again.    It just happened again this past week.  A girl emailed me saying her and her mother or sister are local face painters and could we possibly work together.  I told her I was interested and asked her what she had in mind.  She never responded to my email.

I've had this happen several times.  One lady was interested in exchanging links.  I said yes, I'd be interested and again, never heard from her again. 

I'm wondering why they bother?  Do you think they're just scoping me out?  Lost interest?  Got too busy?

nah - I dont think it's anything like that. I have three other artists I work with everyone once in a while, but it depends on if I need them or not. ( Larger Festivals or what not ) One only contacts me when she doesn't have any bookings and the other two never contacts me, I always initiate the "team work"

On another note - They may be contacting you to get more work - like if you have two parties booked the same weekend - you can send one their way. That's the impression I get from most face painters that contact me. I expect the same in return, but I have not yet recieved a referral from them so I'm not sure.

Yep, I thought that could be it, but since they didn't respond back with the details, I wondered why.

I think that you have the beginnings of a Jam!!  Get these local artists together at your house or a local restaurant and jam.  Great way to meet each other, network and learn how each of you can help each other.

After I broke my back this summer, I was so grateful to know who could help me out, and help my clients out too.  Your clients just love to hear you sing the praises of other artists.  It makes them feel comfortable when you can confidently say "You will love so and so".

So I recommend that you become the leader (you are, you know) and invite these guys and others to jam with you.  Set the place and time and don't expect everyone to show up.  do a write up about the jam, so that those who didn't go can see what fun and activities they missed.

Yeah, I would enjoy living closer too.  I think it'd be fun to get together.  That was the initial problem though, that they never actually responded to my email.  Bummer.

I think the great thing about talking with other face painters online is that you can discuss things that only another face painter can really understand and get enthused about.
