Hello from Michigan! My name is Regina Newsum, but I go by Gina. I have been face painting since the last part of July in 2009. I am not new to art tho, I think I was born with a paintbrush in my hand at birth! From 1976 to 2006, I had a wood craft business. I designed all my own patterns, cut my own wood, and painted it. In 1980 I self taught myself airbrushing. I did about 25 to 30 shows a year. Also I worked in a factory from 1974 to 2006, until retirement in 2006. During the last two years of working in the factory, I had two back surgeries, and nine surgeries on both hands, wrists, elbows and shoulder, due to repetative motion from the fast pace of piece rated work at the factory. The surgeries were unsuggestful and I lost all grip in both hands. I had to teach myself grip again, and how to hold simple objects. I also am a sexual assualt advocate. In June of 2009, I was asked to do simple cheek art at a local picinic for the victims, the picnic was to be heald in Aug. So I reseached face paint and ordered a small face paint kit from Snazaroo, and that changed my life! It was not hard for me to transfer art onto the skin, it came very very easy for me. Since July of 2009, my face painting venture has done nothing but grow! I have done several body paintings, birthday parties, festivals, fairs, childrens events, and my year of 2010 is booking up really fast for the warm weather season. I love to create designs that are original, I practice on plain paper until I get what I want and then paint it on myself! I love to share ideas and pictures with other face painters.
A little about myself, I am married to my child hood sweetheart, we just had our 35th wedding anniversary in July of 2009. we have four daughters, ages 30, 27, 22, and 19. We have our first granddaughter due to be born at the end of Feb 2010, that we be our high lite of the year. I am so happy to be a member of this forum, and exchange ideas with all the talented artists that i see on this site.
