Add on Option
« on: January 20, 2010, 10:37:05 PM »

I was approached by a dance studio owner who offers birthday party packages in her studio. She asked if I'd like to add my facepainting service to the options of their parties! I am so excited, however, I have no idea how I should charge. I think I should have seperate charges for full face, partial face and cheek art but I just don't know what to charge. The studio is in my town only five minutes from my house.
Any suggestions on what to charge per child for each? Wink

I would charge a flat rate per hour.  When kids are a t a party, they won;t have cash to get their faces painted and the parents want to know the total cost upfront.
I think an hourly rate is the best way to go.
Then have a board with all types of examples and the kids can choose what they would like.
Some kids do only want a simple cheek art over a full face mask.
Maybe stop at cheek art, 1/4 face masks...or even 1.2 face masks.
That way the other kids are not waiting forever for someone to get their entire face painted.

Hope it turns out well.
Good luck.

I agree with Kim and think that I'd should charge them an hourly fee and I'd probably give them my normal fee, so I wouldn't be turning away other potential parties on a Saturday and possibly taking a loss.  The dance studio will probably tack on a charge to your fee and then pass that on to the customer.  I think you can tailor your designs by having different party packages the customers can choose.  For example, one hour party with full face designs for 8 - 10 children or the Cheek Art/ 1/4 face painting one hour party for 15 - 20 children...

I second that.  (Third?)
That's the only way to go.  To charge your regular hourly rate
and let the venue tack on their fee.
Getting stuck with cheaper jobs (or not making anything retail)
when better jobs come in
is a one-way-road to despair.
