Was goofing around today and saw the TMNT, that's my sons new favorite, and tried it on my forearm (after shaving the area). Does anyone have any tips on painting faces. I tend to focus on a single aspect and usually end up blowing the proportions, especially defining raised or lowered areas, like cheek bones or sunken eyes. Does anybody have any tips? Here are 2 pictures. The mouth by itself I'm satisfied with. The face, on the other hand, is what I was wanting help with.

I just got home from a daughter/daddy dance, had to face paint, and this is what I painted myself as. I couldn't take any other pictures of the group, my camera batties died! But I was just reading your entery on ninja's, so I played around before going to bed. The single one is using your mouth, looks like a mad ninja! The other pic is the group of them, one re scarf, one blue scarf, one yellow scarf and one purple scarf, don't remember all their names! Well it is 1:53 am now gotta go to bed! Hope this helps you

Thanks Regina. Your pic reminded me I left off the tied end of the scarf. That would have made it look more complete. That was the missing link. Thanks!

I did my first full face teenage turtle on a little boy the other day. I specifically asked him so you want a mask, what colour and he said green. I painted the face and thought I did a great job, when I turned the mirror to show him he just looked dumbfounded. I think he just wanted a green face!!! 10 minutes later dad came and asked how to take it off and the kid came out with a clean face. oops! The simple things! Unfortunately I didnt get a photo.

I think that's the risky part of not displaying pictures or when they don't know exactly what they'll be getting when they make a request. When I do events like that, I sometimes get that funny look when they look in the mirror!

Hey Dragon, I had kind of a simular experience. I did a party where one of the mom wanted something for here son more than he wanted. She finally convinced him to get something, but a he wanted was yellow! Not a yellow sun, or a yellow ball, not even a shape. I slapped on a little yellow and off he went, he loved it!

That's called 'Art for the Artist's Sake'. We know what's high-quality work, what we're proud to be able to do. But the public isn't necessarily into everything that we're into. They want whatever they want, and sometimes it doesn't take much skill.
Yet - I can remember one of my first face-paintings. It was on a friend - just to practice. I was just going to paint his whole face Blue - like in the blue-man-group. Lol - It was so difficult - I think it took me an Hour to get that face all blue! Man, have I got that skill down now

Actually, it's probably a lot of work for when people want a solid colored Body ie: all gold or something
