My phone rang this morning at 5 am! Who calls at 5 am? Am I dreaming or what! I say Hello! Voice says "Do you do face painting?" I say "well yes, may I help you" The man goes on to say "can you paint me and my five friends faces today to go to the basketball finals? Ahhhhh yeah I can, as I sat up on the side of the bed, to see if this was real! What do you have in mind? He then goes on to tell me he seen my face painting pictures in the local newspaper at superbowl time and he saved the artical clipping! I say "wonderful, as I open my eyes and yawn! Now mind you today is a very important day, we hope, my daughter goes to the Dr, at 3 pm to be induced for labor, our baby is one week over due! Hmmmmm I then asked him "what time?, today could be a problem" well he says "we are going to Flint (about a three hour drive from our city) the game starts at 7 pm, but we want to have dinner before the game! And we want to go to the high school and walk around and show the kids our faces to get them excited about the playoffs. how about 11 am? I say "ok" tell him dirrections on how to get to my house, get up and I made a pot of coffe for myself! Now it is 7:55 and I just checked my paints, wouldn't you guess I am almost out of white! Crap! I have put in an order for some paints, but I wasn't going to pick them up until Monday! Had to call my girlfriend that sells Diamond FX in Kalamazoo and make arrangements to go pick up some white this morning! So off to Kazoo I go in a minute, plus I must stop at the store and buy some more coffee! Only had enough for one pot this morning! How does stuff get so low? I have 6 full grown men coming at 11 am, so I can at least offer then coffee! The guy went on to tell me that they are all retired guys from Post ceral company, all in there late 50's! During our conversation, I told them that my brother is retired from Post cereal! He asked the name, I tell him! And yes one of the guys coming is my brother! Go figure! I was then puzzled, why David didn't tell then, I was his sister? The fellow then told me that, all he told his buddies was, that he knew a face painter that did amazing work, and he is picking up everyone to come to my house! Won't that be a surprize for my brother! But I am still going to collect from him! HAHAHAHAHA Moral of the story - We wait all day for the phone to ring for a gig! So if it rings in the middle of the night, answer it! It might just be a job! Wow a house full of men, all getting their faces painted! I did think about it? If they are going to wear it all day, and go and eat? I am going to send with them, about three sponges with green all ready on it, I will put it in a ziplock baggy, incase they have to touch up their lip area! Ahh a woman's mind is always thinking! They are each giving me $25.00, pretty good pay, maybe my brother will give me a tip!

Hmmmm - I forgot to tell you gals the design that I have to paint on the guys! The school name is Olivet, the colors are dark green and white, their logo is an Eagle. So all of them want a, a green face, with a white oval on one cheek, with the word OLIVET inside of it, a white stripe above the oval, and a white strip below the oval, and an Eagle head on the other cheek! Sounds simple enough! But HAHAHAHA, do you guess I should tell them about the shampoo to get the green off! HAHAHAHA They could be stained for a week! I use Diamond FX and it is a staining color! Crap! I just thought about something! I paint little boys, with no beards! Knowing my luck they all have full beards! I will let you gals know of my out come! Wish me luck!

Well my men came.......and then they just left! All 6 showed up! And one surprized brother! Only the guy that made the appointment new I was one of the guys sister! I told him not to tell! Bad luck I had, thought I plugged in my rechargable batties last night so I could take pictures, and when I got the first gentleman done and went to take pics, I only got three pictures before my camera died! Well they all said they will e-mail me pics of them selfs! $150.00 I thought I was getting, but I didn't! I was handed two one hundred dollar bills! Yee haa! A tip! Before they left, they told me that if there team wins tonight, they play again on Thursday! Could I do them again! YEAHHHHHHHH I'LL DO THEM AGAIN! And then if they win on Thursday, the team plays on Monday, if win again on Tuesday, and if they win again the grand final game will be on Thursday! Would I be able to do them again! For all those games? CHA CHING! YEAH! Go girls Go (girls basketball team) I never liked Basketball, but I am cheering for Olivet Girls Basketball right now! They record is 22 wins, no losses before tonights game (I asked) Go girls go, don't break the record now, go all the way!   |

Ahhh yes he was! When he came into the house he just cracked up laughing! he said "wella I just came along for the ride, so because I'm blood! HAHAHAHA, I get the benifit of Having it done for free" I had planned on slipping him back his part of the money before he left anyways, but I think he was the big part of the tip money idea! This is the sad part of it, breaks my heart to say this but,,,,, my brother (who is four years older than me, he is 58) did not know I did this type of painting! So sad, I started face painting in Aug of 2009, and I hadn't talked to him since May of 2009, so it was a pretty happy moment for me to see him! He only lives 10 miles from me! But what can I say, he has a FUNNY wife, pretty stuck up! BUT, he is an adult, he knows my phone number! All in all I had a tear in my eye as we hugged! I kind of watched him the whole time, he staired at me while I worked and talked! He looked threw my photo album of face paints, that I put out for the guys to view, while they were waiting, he would shack his head and say "I can't believe you ar so good" He then told the guys, that he remembered growing up and that was all I would do was draw and paint, when I got all done today, my brother hugged me in front of all his grown adult men and said "Gina - I do love you with all my heart - and I never realized you were so talented - and I am so proud of you - and I am so happy that you found your calling" Well at that moment, my heart was pounding so hard, I couldn't speak! And I told him "David, I too love you, but I never stopped loving you, not for one minute" Were having coffee in the morning at the local coffee shop! What an emotional day it has been! Whew! Thanks girls for letting me share this with you!

Sad to say, I did get a call once at 3 am. They wanted a facepainter. I replied, "Could you call back at a normal hour?" They may have booked later, but didn't say it was them. Maybe, I shouldn't answer the phone in the wee hours, but when woken from a sound sleep, I can't guarantee what I will say!

Sounds simple enough!?! Wow - sounded like a potchy to me.
Real impressed when I saw your interpretation of those instructions though.
I imagine you started by sponging on the green, leaving spaces for the bird and oval and lines?

And my funny-hour caller - That was years ago. When I was Really a beginner and not sure about what the jobs were going to be. So I talked to the guy for a while - til I figured out that it was a couple of very young high-school boys who wanted to get a 'Party Entertainer' to their hotel room. Apparently they misunderstood my profession.
