I got a call Tuesday from a woman looking for a face painter for May30th for a Children's rehabilitation festival they are having.
I quoted her $50 an hour but since the festival was 6 hours, I would give them a deal of $200.
She seemed excited b/c she asked "that's including all your materials and all?'

So, she said she was meeting with the committee Thursday (lastnight) and would get back to me.

I asked how she heard about me and she said a woman was at the Pet Exhibit I did last month and mentioned me.  She said she was really impressed with my face paintings and they way I interacted with the kids.  (that made me feel good)  Not even a year into my business and I am already getting referrals. 

But, I have not heard from her yet.  I want this job so bad.  I am usually only getting one a month and this would be awesome exposure. 

They are even trying to get the classic car club in my area to come and show off their cars for more attractions for the public.

What should I do?  Should I call her?

hey girl, Sometimes when thing have to go through committees and chair-people, it takes a bit longer.
You can't expect something to be presented to them one night and for them to make a decision right away.
I would give her until monday and give her a call.

Another thing you might want to do is quote your standard rates and then advise her that your are giving her a discounted rate of $50 and hour due to it being a charity.

Have you tried posting picutres and adds on craig's list?? It works surprisingly well

I am from Canada and Craig's list has done nothing for me.

I did give her my hourly rate of $50/hour and asked how long the festival was.  When she said 6 hours, I told her that I would do the 6 hours for $200 instead of $300. 

I know....patience is a virtue.  I am just so excited.
But, I will take your advice and wait till Monday to call her back.

BTW - love the Youtube videos.  So many to watch and so informative.

Yes, these things can take some time.  I know it's hard to wait and it can make you worry.  I think you gave her such a deal that I think you'll be hearing from her again.

haha....thanks Vi.  But, I am not good enough to be charging more then that at this point.
Not a huge demand for face painters in my city.  Plus, all the well knowns are way ahead of the game and on everyone's minds when booking a gig.

Don't you think your face-painting is Worth at Least $50 per hour???

Get real.  This is 2010.  Prices are higher than that.

I just feel like I am not that good since I am new at this face painting business.  Maybe no self esteem?  Yah...that's it.   

But, the update....I didn;t even get the job for that price.  She called and said it wasn;t in the budget and they cannot get funding for face painting. 

I think I low ball b/c I never even get calls for pricing.  My phone and e-mail are never regarding face painting.

Little league season is about to start. In Chicago, most season's start with a parade and festivities. I may be doing one soon. Call your the little league parks in your areas and see if they need entertainers for their bigger events. Just another possibility of making some green! Let's play ball!

Also, go to local bowling alleys, kid party places (like Chuck E. Cheese), miniature golf courses - meet the managers and bring samples. We certainly keep people in line for long hours; it's great for their businesses!
