Does face painting make you a better tipper?
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:56:59 AM »

Do you tip better since you started face painting?  I've always had sympathy for people who work for tips and tried to be thoughtful in leaving the tip.  Since becoming a face painter, I try even more so to leave a good tip.  Not an outlandish tip, because I really can't afford it, but I try to be as generous as I can.

When the tips seem like Pay, and it didn't come near what the supplies (let alone my time) was worth, it made me a Worse tipper.  Because a dollar, a whole dollar, was all I was making.  The few bigger tips didn't make up for feeling like a beggar who certainly could not live on This.

But now I'm not so focused on the money.  More spiritual things going on in my life.  The here and now, seeming so much less significant.  So I give much bigger tips and much more often.  Like, so what if the garage attendant charged $30 - I figure I wouldn't have felt the difference if he had charged $35, so why not make him feel comfortable, happy to get a tip.  And so what if I won't be coming back to that restaurant in that small town - just plunk down an extra $10, and imagine the comfort of somebody else.

Can't take it with you anyway.

Yes I do think that I tip much higher now! And when I work for tips, I find I get much more tips, and higher amounts, if I talk alote and you gals know I LOVE to talk! I really get into it with the kids like, how old are you, hows school? do you like to draw? I talk to the parents or adults about face paints, how to take them off! I might tell the little girl "I love your outfit" or "I love your hair style" But (as you see I love to talk! HAHAHHA) then the little people just open up! and the parents tip higher! Yee Haa for the gift of gab! Never though in my life I would get paid for doing what I love to do - art! And think I worked 30 years in a factory everyday, day after day!

It hasn't changed the way I tip. For me it's all based on good service. I believe these days some people expect a tip just because they were there. If I enjoyed what they provided, how they helped, or even if something was wrong and they went out of there way to fix it is when I tip.

my boyfriend was a valet for about 8 years.... THAT made me a better tipper.
He ran five block to get the car or five block after dropping off a car.
It was irratating when he worked 8 hours and only $20 in tips.
I knew he busted his ass and was only getting paid $2.15 an hour... tips was what we lived on

hmmmm, well, i believe in tipping but only if you get good service.....you treat me right, and i will do the same!
i also believe in giving a person a break if they are new....everyone needs a little patience now and then....people are so quick to judge yu.....so if someone is new, i will tell them "good Job"! Give them a good tip and it will go a long way in their self confidence.....i know it would mine.....

A friend of mine keeps it real simple - It's ridiculous to think that some people have to be constantly judged.  Like - how arrogant!  He just gives 20% - all the time.  And I mean All the time.
