it was ok....the cash was rolling in for the face painting, but not the baked good so much...that's fine...it didn't really bother me because none of the other vendors made much money on their baked goods either...about 4pm. we all started giving each other stuff to eat...before i knew it, i had a dozen tamales and some pulled pork sandwiches...yummo!...so we had a food fest!...it was alot of fun and got to meet alot of nice people...somehow, i don't think people view Easter as one of the major 'baking' holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving....all in all it was good!... Here's a pic of my daughter who showed up to help me....we got bored and she let me practice on her...as you can see, i need alot more practice!....

Your daughter is beautiful my friend! I love the simple girly design, it is really fast to do when your line is long. I think the hardest part of doing a design like this is the white, getting it crisp and sharp. To do this if you lay your brush round brush down almost flat, drag, release pressure and then lift up onto the point, it will give it a sharper end, this is just a practice picture, but it shows the sharp points at the end

When I try to go thick to thin on teardrops, it seems like the fat end looks a bit pointy. Not sure what I'm doing wrong with that. I prefer to go thin to thick for that reason. I think I need more practice!

Thanks Gina ...she is my youngest and definately the 'sensitive one' of the litter! Thankyoou for the tip too...i tried and tried today to paint my own face...was going to do the Alice in wonderland thing and submit something...well...needless to say, my face would not cooperate!....I'm trying again today but not sure if my "canvas" will cooperate..i think it needs a good stretching....! Anyway, i went out and found some willing 'victims'(neighborhood kids) and drug them to my house (not literally) and went to town....I will post the pics....might have to be in two different postings....i had ages 4, 5, 7, 10.....it was fun and then we had popsicles!.... By the way, here's atip if no one has tried this, it can save you alot of money...when i get done cleaning my brushes....to keep the bristles aligned and straight, i dip them in liquid starch...its cheaper than that stiffener stuff that you buy and works great...it's water soluble too.... .... does anyone have a better way to clean brushes that swishing them in your hand with soap?

i know one thing...the country bumpkins that live around here act like they have never seen a 'real facepainter' before....most of the time, we just have high school kids doing this...and using craft paint!...so i'm now a celebrity!...lol....autograph anyone?

You know me! I am consently practicing, It took me a while to learn thin to thick lines verses thick to thin! But I seemed to master then either way now. I think the key is , your placement of the tip of the brush, when you are done finishing the line, it doesn't matter if you go thick to thin, or thin to thick, I would lay my brush down almost flat, drag, release the presure and stand up on the tip, so to teach myself, of course you are slower, so I would actually talk to my self to do it! So if I am going thin to thick, I start with the tip almost at a 180 degree angle, drag alittle and then start to lay down, when I get to the end of the line , completely lay the brissles down flat, so the more you practice, you will begin to do it faster and faster, when I find my lines getting sloppy, I have to stop and remind myself, start flat, drag and lift up onto the point! Thats my pep talk to myself!! It works!

Hmmmm starch! I don't know if I would want my brushes so very stiff! I have used loew cornell brushes I think all of my life, now I use Loew Cornell Soft Comfort's. They never lose their shape, after I clean them I never touch the brissles, I roll the rounds between my finger and thumb to get a sharpe point, not putting any pressure on it, just using my finger and thumb as a guide, for the flats, I dip them in water slightly wip them on the side of my water pot once on both side, and lay them all out to dry, I never put then completely away wet, or put them in their brush sleeve wet, I let them dry thoughly, so no bacteria or mold or smell can grow. And I never put a brush in a water pot brissles down, ever, never, even if I am busy busy! Just a few minutes will ruin the brush. Mostly my great Loew Cornell Liner! I can't live with out that one!
