face painters at seaworld
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:26:41 PM »

Just arrived home tonight from California.  We went to seaworld, and I watched 6 different booth locations of face painters.  I was so wanting to grab a brush and paint a face or two!  OMG!  Their face painting jobs was discusting! And the prices that they got for them was out of site! $10 for eye art, and it went up to $20 for a full face. I watched a gal paint a snake, it just went up over the forhead and down to the cheek area and she charged $15 for that! They were such sloppy painters it was sad.  All of them painted like that!  I talked to the gal who told me that she trained everyone, and then I watched her paint, oh my GOD! Slppy, sloppy, sloppy!  They all used wolfe paints. and really big thick brushes, I never seen a thin line one! And as I was talking to a few, they asked me how I knew so much about face painting and materials!  And then I told them thats what I do for a living!  OMG! Their eyes bugged out, and then they tended to get nervous! One gal tried four times to paint a dolphin! you would think if they were painting at seaworld, they would know a dolphin!  I asked her if I could paint one on my arm for her? She said ok! So I did, and then she asked me to paint one on her arm! So I did!

I'm surprised!  I always think that the painters at parks get so much practice, that they're normally really good.  Most of the ones I see on Youtube anyway.

I went to Wild Adventures last year and just had to check out the face painting booth.  I wanted to get painted, but each time I went over the artist was elsewhere, so I ended up getting painted by her helper.  I was a bit disappointed, but glad I got to see their setup and everything.  They used Snazaroo and stored it in a mini fridge.

Did you get pictures?  I'd love to see it.  Now I want to check out the artists at Disney and Orlando, maybe this summer.

No I didn't get any pictures.  I had already told the gals that I was a face and body painter, I think they were a little nervous with me watching. And their set up, was nothing to dream about!  They had their paints in a plastic tote! The kind of tote that has three drawers, one drawer for the paints (just all tossed in) one drawer for brushes and one drawer for misc.  they didn't even use glitter!  No glitter any where! I was not impressed withe seaworld face painting. The prices were so high.  The gals told me they made minimum wages of $8.50 an hour!

I worked admissions at Cedar Point in Ohio one summer when I was in college. Most everybody that worked there was either in high school or college and the training was of course minimal--taught by our peers too.
The pay was terrible. I'll bet these "face painters" had never painted outside the park.

I would expect them to be able to do a dolphin too.

I bet they hire such young people because us older folks know that when you are charging 15 dollars a piece that $8.50 an hour is like working for a face paint sweatshop.

Most of the painters at the parks here in O-Town work for Enjoy your face Inc. you can search the website. They are trained minimally, stand in the hot ass sun all day and make 8.50 an hour. Most of the pictures I see are decent, but when they try to replicate it on a face, not so much. I also see alot of UNMOTIVATED people that could care less if they actually paint anything or not.

Just the scoop from a hometown central fl girl.

Most of the painters around here have worked for disney, etc. and are out on their own now and you can tell from the style of painting a mile away.
