Taking Pictures at Busy Events
« on: May 05, 2010, 12:16:21 PM »

So I did a party last night and it was lots of fun!

I did some great faces, but it was soooooo busy I was not able to get any pictures.
How do you handle it?

I was thinking of "passing out" my camera so they could take pictures of themselves and their friends, had to think thrice about this because I was scare I would not get my camera back.

thoughts? Suggestions?

Yes I agree about the camera!  But one time face painting at a birthday party of about 40 children, I knew right at the very first face painting that I felt my day was right on!  You know when you have that feeling! The first five came out so great, I knew I had to capture some great pics, so I stopped and ask a mom that was just watching if she wouldn't mind taking some great pictures for me?  I showed her what to do with my camera, and I even gave her a pink and purple boa to play around with for the little girls pictures.  Mom did a great job and she even took some pics of me painting! Hay!  And I never had to worry about my camera, she returned it to me right after the last picture!  But  like you I would be affraid to turn my camera over to  the children!

I had an event a few weeks ago where I was taking pictures, but the line got too long, so I wanted to speed things up.  Someone was sitting in my chair waiting for the picture when I decided I needed to cut out the picture taking.  After explaining this, a dad bystander offered to take them.  I thought, "Oh, yay!"

He ended up taking about 3 and just when I was thinking how selfless a guy he was to help me out just to be helping, he said, "Well that's all of my kids."  and handed me back the camera.   laugh

If you can round up the people that are sitting around watching and not really waiting to be painted, maybe you can ask them to take pictures while they wait.  That way they're right at your table and not running off with your camera.  They'll be right there in your line of sight.  Maybe, ask them if they can take pictures while they're waiting and when they're ready to head off, have them hand the camera back?  A thought.

lol...i guess we all have to take some risks once in a while...i only take pics of the ones that are really good....i'm so up and down with my painting right now...i still have a long way to go, but once in a while i have a one that turns out really good...so i take a pic of that one...if it's just the same old cheek art i usually don't take pics....
