You've been hired to paint for a Fun Day for an hour and a half. They only want you to offer your quickest designs because there are so many kids to take care of. So you're painting away and then the person that hired you wants to let you know that he's going to get painted later and he wants a complicated cheek art that you've never done before. He runs off and doesn't get in line all the time you're there.
As you're closing down the line, you let them know the time you're leaving and that you can only do one more. When you get to the one more, they talk you into doing the one after her too. You agree and start on the first one more, then the person that hired you comes up and says he wants to get his done. (note: this is after you've turned others away saying you're closed).
The 2 left tell him you're closed. He says o.k., but waits anyway. After you do the 2 more it's 10 minutes past your end time and here he is. What would you do?

I would tell him that he only hired you for a certain time slot and that it is already past that time. You need to clean up and get to another job before you are late. Which is fast approaching. Sorry but he knew how long he hired you for. That is his problem. He is obviously just be a pompous jerk. Your time isn;t valuable to him. JMO.

I'm a big softie and would end up painting him, but probably being annoyed about it for the rest of the day. lol.
I always hate when I am doing something like a kids' charity event , have a long line of kids waiting, and then a Mama will get up in my chair. What's that all about? I mean LOOK at all the kids waiting, I'm here for them!! I probably need to bring a sign that says "Kids Only!" to those events.

My contract states that any time over the booked time is charged at $XX for every 30 minutes or portion thereof.
1. I do not do overtime unless authorized (so I would not have done any "extra" once I was done!)
2. I stop at the posted time no matter how many are waiting... I'm only paid to paint until the time posted.
3. If he wants to get painted with something then HE, and the "authorized representative" would have to be authorizing the overtime.
4. If I have been hired to paint children I have no problem telling adults and teens "Sorry, this is for kids 12 and under" etc. And I will turn them away, even if it hasn't been stipulated in the contract, if there are lots of kids waiting. It depends on the demographics of the event - I always ask for large festivals so I can put up signs with age limits.

At the time I was thinking I'd turned others away and that I shouldn't treat him differently. So, I told him I was closed, but then he started complaining. "Oh, I'm the one that hired you, but I can't get one. Oh, she's off the clock. I got ya, you're off the clock. Well, I'll go get your check."
Then I felt like I'd really screwed up. That it wouldn't have hurt me to do one more, he'd hired me after all. When he came back, I said, I could do the design, but it'd take a while. Maybe something really quick. Then he agreed and said yeah, just something quick, whatever you want. He just wanted something to show the kids for the rest of the Fun Day. I did a spider web and that was that.
I ended up leaving with a bad feeling that stuck with me the rest of the day, wondering if I'd done the wrong thing, etc. Sometimes I feel like I'm on autopilot with these things.
