Getting the child to lean forward
« on: June 01, 2010, 03:46:44 PM »

I wasn't sure which topic we were discussing this previously, so I thought I'd start a new one to give an update.  I tried out the hands on the knees technique to get the children to lean forward this weekend, but it didn't really work out for me.

I almost forgot about it, but as I was struggling with one child to get him to lean forward, I remembered the hands on the knees technique.  When I told him to do that, he just reached way out to put his hands on his knees, but continued to hold his face and body away from me.   Sad

I think I tied it one other time, but didn't seem to help much.  Oh well, my other way still works most of the time.

I've got the directors chair now and I have them lean back and almost face up, its way easier.

So that's the reasoning behind the director's chair.  Something to think about.

I have and use the tall directors chair, but I have to plan that out around how my back is feeling for the day! Studip back any ways! But I find alote of the time when the child leans all the way back to rest their back against the back of my chair, they tend to slump over and their little faces are down!  It makes me bend alote from the waste trying to get to their face.  If I do use the big chair, I have them sst to the front and either hold the sides of the chair rails or their knees!

I tried the hands on knees thing this past weekend too.  It didn't do much for me either.  Those little rascals still slumped down with their faces looking at their hands on their knees rather than faces up looking at me.  I'm thinking about getting a mirror... attaching it to a head band and putting the headband around my forehead.  You know... the kind of thing like some doctors use.  Kids LOVE looking at themselves... so maybe that will work.  Now to find the equipment to do this with. HA!

What about a big pillow for the back of the chair for the little ones?  When I go to Curves to workout, they have black pillows at some of the stations for the more vertically challenged individuals.
My tall director chair is coming tomorrow morning.  Yippee.... Yahoo.

where did you buy your chair from?  One suggestion for you!  When the little ones climb up into the chair, hold one arm of the chair for them, until they get in and seated! they tend to wobble, but you will love it!  I love setting in mine!  Ahhh wish I had some one to paint my face! hahahaha

Ha, ha.  The mirror thing's a great idea.  I've had people hold a mirror for me on a few occasions for a child who was easily distracted.  Attaching it to your head may be the way to go... you never know.  On the other hand, the littlest ones may try to grab it... the little rascals.   Smiley
