Help! Anyone know of a good place to buy an easy pop up tent for events?
« on: June 27, 2010, 08:20:39 AM »

The one I have didn't last very long.  I am thinking of maybe more of a commercial one.  I don't want to spend a ton. Does anyone know of a good place to buy event tents that are sturdy and is easy to set up?

I've heard that this site sells good sturdy ones.  It's at www.caravancanopy.com

I got a 200 tent from costco and it blew apart in my yard when I was airing it out one time. My sister got a 100 tent from walmart for football season and we have used it probably 40 times by now with no problems.

Just sayin. . .

I just bought a 10 x 10 EZ Up pop up canopy at Sam's Club for $200 and some change.  I used it for the 1st time a couple weeks ago and Mother Nature really gave it a workout!  We had some seriously nasty storms blow through... 60 mph winds and a torrential down pour of rain.  That little critter withstood it all.  Things inside even stayed dry.  I had planned on adding a silicone coating to the top canopy... but I'm thinking now that I don't need it (at least not this year).  Ours came with a front awning and side curtains.  I think I may still invest in weighs in case we put it up on concrete or blacktop and we can't stake it into the ground.

In fact another vendor across from us had just put up their canopy for the 1st time too... also an EZ Up brand... but theirs cost $59 at K-Mart. First of all it said it was a 10 x 10... but the legs were slanted in... so the top was only about 8 x 8.  With the first sign of bad weather... it collapsed ON them and tore a hole in the canvas.  YIPE!  They came scooting over to us and asked where we got ours.  They immediately ran off to Sam's and got one like ours.

I think the key to our canopy surviving was that at night or when we saw a storm coming... we lowered it as far down as it would go without actually collapsing it.  That gave it a lower profile and also we did pound the stakes that came with it into the ground really good.

Any way... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! javascript:void(0);

yeah for the ez up!  I have had mine for over 20 years.  But over this past weekend I was at a Ren Faire and the monster storm came in! It willed up with water like a giant bunt pan!  Riped right away from the top!  I took a stanley nife and sliced holes in it to drain, it was a night mare,  snaped all four of the inside poles right in two. BUT I am not giving up on my ez up!  It is the old style made out of medal. Hubby is making new medal tubes to slide over the broken ones and drilling a hole and putting longer screws in it, I am mending the canopy!  I haveworked on it since 6pm last evening, almost done!  I made a cone shaped  vynal incert and sewed it in the middle at the peek, my pole won't go threw it again!  and I sewed patches on all the sliced holes that I had to make.  I went around every corner and in the middle and sewed on 6 by 10 pices of re-enforcement vynal. I think I will be good to go for friday and sat and sun at the car show!  I too as a rule lower my tent at night but I didn't Saturday night!  For weights I saved 5 gallon milk jugs, hubby filled them with ready mix cement and let then harden. One bag will do it. I take a bungie strap suspend it from each corner and hook the milk container to the hook on the bungie strap. works wonderful forweight and pretty cheap to make. about $4.00 fora bag of cement.  I WILL OVER COME THAT NASTY STORM!  IT WILL NOT GET ME! I AM A FIGHTER! ahhhh and a tired one I must say!  Good nite, 6am comes early, Hannah won't let Grandma sleep!  Gheesh!
