Going from one gig to the next
« on: July 11, 2010, 07:26:17 AM »

I had 2 events yesterday and had to go from one to the next.  I took a change of shirts, because I knew it'd be pretty risky to assume I could stay free of face paint.  It was so hot too.

The first one was outside and my black was gooping up and getting all over my hand.  I was pretty careful, but still ended up with a few tiny spots on my shirt, but mostly tiny white smudges on my pants.  The children in one family kept taking my mirror, so I decided when the last boy took it, that'd I'd put it out of sight as soon as he set it down.  He ended up holding it FOREVER.  I'd painted him as Ironman and he kept gazing and gazing at himself.   Tongue

After that I headed to my next event.  Stopped for a quick lunch and changed my shirt and I was good to go.
It was a McDonalds.  When I first arrived, they had face painting already setup.  It was an employee using Palmers.  It wasn't pretty!  At first I was wondering if they were set up to help me out with the face painting.  It ended up being that they thought the caricature artist was coming, so they were going to do the face painting.

I had a good time at this one and kept steady busy.  Some teenage boys got in my line and one boy kept saying things like, "I'm getting the heart puppy. "  He even warned one boy that if he didn't let him take his turn, then he wouldn't get the heart puppy.  The boy wouldn't give up his turn, so then the boy switched to saying he was getting the heart rainbow.  Guess what he actually ended up with after all this talk of girly designs throughout his wait in my line?  The Joker.   Grin

Anyone else with strategies for getting to your next event fresh and clean?

Honestly, I never get paint on me.  A friend of mine can never figure out why I don't but, I just don't.  Now I do get glitter on my hands and pants because of my poof glitter but never paint.  Now when I work at the boardwalk I have been known to get paint on me because I have to reach over my paint to get to the register, but now I wear a apron and have no problems.  Perhaps you should get a apron.

An apron's a good idea.  Sometimes I think I'm just naturally messy.  What's really embarassing is when I get it on my face or nose and no one tells me.  I did a restaurant gig not too long ago and as I was handing the manager the invoice and chatting with him, I thought he had a funny look or smile on his face.  When I got to the car and checked in the mirror, I had a big black smudge of face paint across my nose.     Embarrassed

Haha, I do the same thing - I'll be loading my white, and end up flicking it all over my (just washed, of course!) shirt and/or face - one gig I actually ended up swiping red across my cheek - don't ask me how.

I've not thought about taking a spare shirt with me...I'm usually in costume, though, so if I get splatters, I'm SOL. or I have to change costumes anyway. I've never had super bad splatters, though...touch wood.

Sherry,
I've started wearing multi-colored shirts & darker paints/shorts/skirts. This helps. A change of clothes is a good idea(especially now that we're sweating like crazy in this heat). I wipe out the kit w/ anti-bacterial wipes meant for skin & have a 2nd set of sponges. I'm thinking of starting to carry ivory soap & 70% alcohol to clean the brushes between people/gigs. I just don't want me & my kit to look sloppy for the 2nd gig.
