I would have to agree! My gigs have been few and far in between! I had a full weekend of painting for last weekend, all out side gigs! Needless to say ---- it rained all weekend! Every thing got canceled! Every time I looked out of the window at the rain drops, all I could see was money falling down! Rain kills us! Doesn't seem to rain during the week days, just on the weekends! This Sat I have a 5 hour birthday party pig roast to paint at, rain stay away please. Next Saturday party on Friday, but it is inside! And then four weekends of ren fair, probly no rain for that event, it will probly snow! Crap! Out side events are winding down to a stop now! Starting to get booked for next spring and summer, but I think it will be a lonnnnng winter!

My bookings have started picking up here in Florida. Summer is my slow season... I didn't get a single event I think for August, but now thankfully I'm booked the next 3 weekends.
We had a killer hot football event last weekend... 100 degrees! I think the man that hired us really regretted including the face painting. No one wanted to get painted in that heat. Things have cooled off since... just perfect weather now.

Really dried up here as well. Maybe 5 events between now and Next year. This sucks big time. I was wondering if I should send out postcards promoting face painting for their kids parties for X-mas? I am really getting discouraged. Even the company I sub out of is dried out in my area.

what has kept me going so strong has been ren faires. I have already done 9 weekends of ren faires, and I have four weekends in the month of October to do. The money has been amazing at ren faires. If you ever get a chance to do any, go for it! People spend money like there is no tomorrow at the faire, face painting included! At some of the other events that I did, it was so hot, the face paints just melted off the faces, glitter tattoo's saved me on those days.

This is why I'm so glad I work at the boardwalk on the weekends, although I'm doing a festival next weekend, at least when I'm not doing anything I still have my face painting job at the boardwalk.

It has turned a bit slow...I have events every day on the weekends for September, and the first Sat of October, which is the last booking I got, and the first in about 2 weeks. After that, zilch. Not even anything for Halloween yet. I'm feeling a tad anxious, myself, even though I know that if there's a bit of a break then I'd have time to do things like put my website together...lol
I put 3 ads up on Craigslist yesterday - 1 each for Halloween, pre-natal art, and general birthdays/events - and have had 1 inquiry so far. We'll see if she replies, as she didn't know my rates but loved my work...
I guess it's time to promo like crazy, and start working on the big items on my to-do list.

I've been busy all summer & still going strong. I did have a big restaurant/bar chain specializing in wings that hired me for 5 events totally renege on the contract & totally messed me over for October. I'm scrambling to fill up all the business I sent away(sent some to you Sherry so I hope that helped you out:) I walked in the door & of said establishment & they had changed the time, not told me & said they didn't need me & I should have come sooner. No one called me, no one emailed me, etc. I canceled the rest of their contracts & sent them an invoice for the event I came late too(I'd already paid my balloon twister & glitter tattooist... my daughters). It's ok because I'm believing I'll get an even better opportunity & it's their loss

Wow, yeah... must have been disappointing. But I do believe things happen for a reason, so when I lose one venue, I always feel there are better things coming and there usually are. Thanks Linda.

Mollie I am so glad you posted! I have thought about you often. I just thought everyone has been pretty busy over the last couple of months thats was not many posts on our great amazing forum! So Mollie I am so happy for you and hubby working now. BUT don't give up your talent and let it go idol! And yes fund raisers! OMG! You could do one every day! People must think our materials grow on a tree! I wished I had a face paint tree to pick a cake from! hahaha specially a white paint tree! So now when I do a fund raiser I still donate my time and labor and I ask for a little material fee, so I can at least cover the cost of my paints and glitters. Glad to hear you are doing so well my friend!

Yeah! I just replaced said chicken wing job that canceled on me w/ a big Haunted House PPF job. Th-Sun in my non-working hours(I can still take day time gigs)! No upfront cost! And they said last weekend they averaged 900+ people a night! I'm praying it's a good $ maker, but happy it'll cost me nothing to give it a try. I'm brushing up on my scary designs right now!!!

I tried something with my rates and it was unsuccessful. $100 for first hour and $50 for each additional...NO BOOKINGS! I recently switched to $65 hour with two hour minimum and have booked more parties.

The Haunted House sounds like a fun one! I've been wanting to go to a haunted house this year. We shall see, I may get some scary face inspiration.
This time of year, I get a lot of orders for just one color on Ebay. Because of some of the customer questions I get, it makes me wonder if people just slap one color on for their costumes. I accidentally sent a pink to one guy and he said he ordered orange and that Oompa Loompas are not pink. Then I got a question from one customer asking if she got the right shade of blue for Avatar. Hmmm...
Or maybe they detail with other makeup like I did before discovering face paint.
