Premade balloons or on the spot twisting
« on: September 29, 2010, 09:07:27 AM »

Do you twist your balloons up and bring to the event, or do you twist them at the party as each guest requests?  If you take the balloons to the event already made, I'm wondering how you know what designs to have available?  I always twist the balloons at the party or event and I know that, just like face painting, I can never tell exactly which ones will be the most requested at any one event.

Hi All,
I wouldn't twist them before the party partly because then you aren't charging them for the time it takes to twist. Some will bring the birthday child a super fancy one as a gift that is made ahead. I have on occasion brought a few in different sizes pre-inflated just to kick start the line but in most cases I just do them to order. People love to watch the magic of the twist so the time spent at the party twisting is good entertainment. Everyone wants to see what will emerge and there is the added tension of the fear of the pop! that keeps them enthralled by the whole thing.

I twist on the spot. I have flash cards with choices, and when I switch over to balloons, I take a second to flip through them, and add/remove any, depending on time, number of kids etc.

I bring the birthday child a pre-made balloon birthday cake hat (and tell their guests that if I come to their birthday, I'll bring one for them, too! Tongue), but everything else I make there. I'm not a mind reader - how am I to know who's going to want what, and in what colours?! Plus I hate when balloons oxidize.

A few of the local clowns I met say they twist them ahead of time, so I wondered if a lot of people did that and how that worked.  I thought about the oxidizing too.
