Hello, From Atlanta GA
« on: October 18, 2010, 10:51:28 AM »

Hi all, glad to meet you.
I'm a novice, actually an aspiring face painter. I recently realized that this is something that I am very passionate about, just never occurred to me that I could do this for a living. It's a bit scary, but also very inspiring to see so many people making good , honest living doing such awesome work.

I have ordered my first set of face paints and other supplies, and been researching for the past several days. Halloween weekend will provide me with 2 great opportunities to dip my feet int he water, and practice face painting at two parties.

If you have any advice for me, I will really appreciate it. I don't expect to become rich/experienced/popular/in demand/ over night, but I expect this to make me truly happy. For once, I know what I want to do for a living!

Awesome Catalina!  I'm glad to see you on the board.  The things you say remind me of myself when I first started out.  Smiley

Welcome!

This site is inspirational! There are many talents that have their own style.
Ask any and every question. I still do after several years.

If you want to be the best; learn to be a great business woman as well as artist.
I have many years in the art field, but always question my ability to improve my business.

If you don't want to be an excellent painter who only gets an occasional call - hustle.
Regina said it best. Get out there and talk to people!

Having talent, business cards and a website is great, but it doesn't guarantee us jobs.
You need to advertise your business every day you walk out your door!
Best of all, you will LOVE what you do and that makes it the perfect job for us all!
Have fun and NEVER stop practicing!

Ahh Wina thank you honey! This is my most fav forum, we are a family. Yes you can ask any thing on this forum, and please tell us a bit about yourself also. We love family stories and memories. I wlecome you to our face painting family with open arms.  I know it is pretty frightening to go full blow into this busy, but let me tell you I wished I had done it many many years ago. This work is my life and my passion now.  I worked in a factory for 30 years, wore down my body from piece rated work. I had two back surgeries, and 5 surgeries on my left arm, wrist, elbow and shoulder, and four on my right arm, I had to retire on a medical retirerment. Thank God I had enought time in to do that at 100%. Sat around the house for over 6 months and felt useless! I am not new to art, I had a woodcraft business for 30 years also. I cut my own wood, sanded and painted and them took it to shows. I was making over my factory pay per year! Life was good until my health starting failing. Dr's told me to just stop work and I had no use of eaither hands or arms. I did therapy for 6 months, five days aweek. Then they told me there was nothing more to do. Just go home and enjoy life! HOW? I starting playing around with my brushes and taped them to my hands, I taught my own self grip again. I worked so very hard to get my feeling back in my hands, arms and wrists. Yes they still hurt 24/7 BUT I AM ALIVE AGAIN, doing what I love, and I gained my life back and feel needed once again. My joy of life is to paint and watch my client look into the mirror. This business is not a give me, you must promote yourself. You can always e-mail me and I can tell you tons of things I did and do to get my name out.  My forum family has heard of all this in other enteries. Life is grand and you will be  just fine my friend. Happy painting!
