Starblends: What do I do now?
« on: November 06, 2010, 09:59:15 AM »

Hi everyone!
Just received a box of from Don Reed Productions.
I won some Starblends in an ebay auction (7.20 ea).
I have blue, pink, white, green and red.
I have heard from some of you how they work well on hot sweaty days.

Soooo....
Do you apply with sponges or brushes?
Can you achieve detailed designs or is it more of a base
and details are done with reg facepaints?
Can the colors get dark or is it always more of a pastel?

Give me your wisdom of the subject. I'm just playing with them for now!
Practice, practice, practice!

I apply them with a Smoothie or a powder puff when I want to cover the whole face.  The flat puffs that come with a compact.  I only use them for bases.  You can also apply them with your regular face painting sponge.

So for the details, you use regular face paint?

Yes.  It makes the Starblend cakes hard for me to work with if I get them wet, so I only use them for dry bases.  Some people use them wet, so I guess then you might be able to do linework, but I think it would be pretty lackluster looking... not as sharp as the regular face paint.

I LOVE Starblends!  Like Sherry, I only use mine dry.  But, several people swear by using them wet.

And yes, I use paint like Diamond or Wolfe to do the details on top of it.

Also, for a fantastic effect, try apply them, then spritzing them a mist of water.  Now, quickly poof it all with glittler!  The water makes it stick to the Starblends.  Very fast and effective.

I use starblends a lot in the humid summers. They all look great except the purple. I use them dry with a smoothie blender, but they've gotten wet & don't work as well. I'm going to try them out wet & see if they work better. You can't use them for linework. I use dfx/wolfe/tag for the lines.
Personally I prefer paints, but if the heat is just too high & the kids are sweating it off as you paint it, starblends are a great option!

I am a HUGE fan of Starblends, and I do use the purple.  But green is the one that I only use for sickly monsters.  It is not my favorite

I also use Ben Nye Luminiers.  Their green is fantastic.  But, in addition, I buy green and tourquise eye shadows from whereever.    They complete my pressed powder kit.
