Our recent jam, plus a birthday party
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:49:46 AM »

I was almost ready to give up on our local jam.  Not a lot of people had been showing up and the ones that did, didn't bring their kit.  Pretty discouraging.   Tongue

So the most recent one I had, I thought I might just let it go if it didn't go very well.  One person showed up this time, but she brought her kit.  Yay!  And she was really enthusiastic about the jams and wants me to keep having them.  Small world too.  I did an event not long ago, where someone brought in her snake balloon that I thought was pretty cool.  I just didn't know it was her.  We ended up doing a little mini balloon jam too.

Here are the pics from the jam.  A lot of the same 'o same 'o, but I'm hoping as we continue to hold the jams, creativity will kick in and we'll start to get more and varied designs learning from each other.

Great job! Yes it's hard to organize any jams!  I received several e-mails from a gal in Fort Wayne Ind. She wanted to hold a face painting class for her face painting guilt. After weeks of preping for it and I even made a 30 page book for everyone to take home on what we learnt for the day. Lots of prep work. She had told me there would be 20 attending. I charged $50 per person. We had it at a I HOP Resturant. They only thing we had to give the I HOP was we had to purchase a dinner and open the face painting for I HOP guests. Worked out great.  We needed models! I had class from 2pm to 6pm,  then we opened our room from 6pm to 9pm for the I HOP guests, and I ended up staying until 12 midnight jamming with my students! The only heart break is that only 4 showed up! The gal organizing was to collect all class fees and do the set up. She didn't tell me the night before when I called her that the class was so little. I would have postponed it and scheduled it for another time. That was a 4 hour drive for me both ways. Returning home at arount 5 in the morning!  All in all after the night ended, I saw so much improvement in the three gals and one gentleman it was amazing! They looked there study and information book that I had made for them. And we are now talking about an other class in the spring.  So I too like you will not throw in the towel, just keep plugging away with new ideas!

Sorry you had such a long drive for so few people, but it sounds like you made the best of it anyway and enjoyed yourself in the end.   Smiley  I think even when an event doesn't go as we hoped, we do get something out of it, maybe a contact that will bring something in the future learning what may not work next time.

I couldn't get Denny's to let us switch to Wednesday nights.   Sad  I need to get motivated and contact some other stores to see if we could switch it to Thursday night.  That's the only other night I'd feel safe tying up once a month and not worry about having to turn away paying gigs.  There's two other people that tell me they don't like Wednesday either because of church.
