The water thing
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:12:07 PM »

I am having such trouble with the water situation. I can't figure out an easy way to replenish my water and dispose of the mucky stuff when I am painting.
I have done events where I have a pitcher of fresh water then a bucket to dump the dirty junk in. But....then I have to dump the big ol bucket out when it's full. I often have many cups on my table at once. I could really use some advice/ideas! There must be an easier way!!!

If you use a set of brushes for white, one for black and a set for all other colors, all you have to do is dip the tip of your brush into the water, you will never get "coffee water" and this will save on paint!  I use one small baby sippy cup for my water and it is still see threw by the time I am finished painting. I ussually only take with me a 20 oz bottle of water.

When I took a class with Kurt and April from Wolfe FX, they use the method you do with the container of water.  They had a big metal container of water that was almost filled to the top.  You couldn't see through the sides and they said that the color mostly settled to the bottom.  They would barely dip their sponge in and squeeze the excess.  Since the container was so big, maybe there was less of stirring up the water and that's how it settled?

I carry two 5 gallon icecream buckets with lids. One holds my water & the other is empty for dumping the yucky stuff. I have 3 cups of water that I keep on my table. I rinse the majority of paint off in one, then rinse in the 2nd one & then rinse in the 3rd(the 3rd stays clean through the whole gig). As my water gets nasty, I dump it into the empty bucket & scoop fresh water from the 5 gallon bucket. I also use only 1 sponge per child since, so I drop my used sponges into my dirty water. This keeps them moist till I can get home & clean them. It helps prevent staining.
