One good tip, I thought I'd share, that I learned recently. When you name your photos to be placed on your site, name them with search engines in mind. Think about the keywords people would use to find your site and name them appropriately. For example, if I want people to find my site while searching for face painting in New York, I'd name it "Face Painting New York", or maybe add in my company name... "Face Painting New York Fab Faces". I don't own a company called Fab Faces and I'm not in New York btw, this is just an example. Believe me, I'm not the most computer savvy. Anyone else with some good tips? Please share.

You can actually pay a small fee to have your website appear in search engines like Google and Yahoo. If you can get the site on the first page you will have much more business.

This actually isn't true. You don't have to pay a dime to submit your pages to Google or Yahoo. And Google and Yahoo will not accept any form of payment to make your site appear higher in search results. Anyone who tries to get you to pay the money and "guarantees" that you'll be higher in the search results is lying. You CAN however, choose to pay to have ads on google and yahoo (in google, adds or the things on the right hand side of the screen, and you generally pay per click). Whether or not doing this would be successful is something you have to figure out for yourself. Personally, I know I never click on the ads, I focus on the search results, but that's just me.

Ah yes, youre definitely right. It was the ad spots i was talking about. I can only assume they must work though if people keep buying them

Well I have to say anytime I search for anything the paid sponsors completely consume the first page and often times have no relevance to the subject I am searching for. I use GODADDY for my hosting and as part of my package I do get a Google ad. You may have a chance of being found without an ad but these search engines are no different than the yellow pages. They help their paying customers... If you are in a high population center I think it's a good move to get a small package... Good tip about the "key search words," but I have to disagree about the paid advertising. Overall I think the most effective advertising is you and word of mouth.

Actually, I name my photos as obscurely as I can to post on my site. If the search is for me or generic face painting in my town/area I am the one that is at the top of the searches. I'm not really keen on my photos popping up on image searches - I am tired of sending "you don't have permission to use my photos" emails and letters to people who lift the photos without checking the site! Unfortunately, if someone searches for images using my name all my website photos pop up!! Can't win!! : I don't pay for advertising - not on the web, for directories, or locally. I don't even have a yellow pages listing. Word of Mouth is the best advertising. Google Adwords are a pay as they click thing... you pay based on how many people clicked on your ad.

I have had 2 domains and never got around to putting anything on them. I'm hoping to get the latest on its feet soon. How many pages do you have on YOUR websites? What catagories do you use on the separate pages? Thanks!

Mine is at www.funfaces.net. You can take a look at it if you like. It's a pretty basic and simple website, I think. My 4 page categories are "Home", "Pricing and About Us", "Photos" and "Links" I've recently started thinking about adding an extra page or two, but I'm still not sure if I really want to. I'm worried it might mess something up with the template. It's seems these type of things are such time consuming little projects.

Nice website. Great work. Thanks! I like how it connects to the many other photos. Also really like the t-shirts that all 3 of you wear. Embroidered or silk screened? It would be interesting to see photos of others tables. I would like to see how everyone else displays their samples. I had boards, but I was in trouble on windy days. I now have albums on the table and sometimes print out photos sheets and tape them to the table.

I would have to count how many pages I have on my website!! Hmm... I went and counted I have 26 separate pages on my site (not all are linked directly to each other - some are "private"). On my home page I have a "Contents" list with links to the separate pages by the main category - for example the "Theatre" button/link takes you to the main Theatre page, and it then links to sub-pages related to Theatre.

Sophiesbabygirl, I'm not sure about the shirt, but I believe it would be silk screened... I'm completely clueless in this category! We ordered them from one of the artists' (that work with our company) dad. He owns a local printing shop. Thanks for the compliment. But after ordering these, I realized I really don't like the blue and just placed another order for red shirts with the same Fun Faces logo. I have a festival coming up tomorrow, so I'll get photos of my setup to share. I now use poster frames, I believe they're called. They're the cheaper frames I can buy at Walmart or Hobby Lobby. I take the paper that comes with the frame, turn it to its backside and velcro my pictures to it. I found myself making up so many signs and then wanting to change out photos, that I finally broke down and started using the velcro I'd heard other artists recommend. It's such a time consuming project to make displays anyway, I think I was worried about it being even more time consuming to add the step of the velcro. I'm glad I did! The wind gets me too. I now bring a thin rope and attach it to the back of the frames and tie them to my tent poles. This keeps them anchored pretty well. You have to be delicate about it, because I've had the attachment in the back of the frame rip right off. I guess that's my fault for opting for the cheapie frame. When that happens, I tie it around the middle of the board to hold it in place.

Lol - Now I'm thinking of changing all the names of the pictures on my website. I think that would mean rescanning and uploading them ...... that's silly.
Maybe we can just start from now. And think of this when we name our new photos.
