Face Painting at the Monster Truck Jam
« on: February 28, 2011, 06:35:28 AM »

We face painted at the Monster Truck Jam... what fun and what a madhouse!  Grin   I didn't take any pictures, because I didn't want to slow the line down any.  Sad

I have in my booking form that they're to provide table, chairs and overhead shading.  They had none of that ready for us and it was a hot, sunny day in a parking lot for 3 hours.  Luckily I'd brought sunscreen, but that didn't help much, because I kept sweating it off.  They found a beat up table for us, but had no extra canopy, so we had to sit in direct sun.   Tongue  I had a black sheet in my case to cover the table, so it didn't look so bad.

They kept not bringing the chairs and I had to keep going up to the lady to see if they had the chairs yet, because we were getting down to the wire and she was getting really annoyed with me.  We had 15 minutes to go and I could see hoards of people standing behind the gate, ready to rush into the Pit Party area.  The lady turned to me and said in an annoyed tone... "my dad is getting the chairs and he has to walk on his 2 feet to get them to you, so it's going to take some time."  I said, "o.k. thank you."  Go back to my station and Voila, they're coming with the chairs.  I didn't intend to annoy her, but they'd forgotten about getting them once and I knew in the chaos they may forget again, so I had to be the pain in the butt that day.

So we get our chairs at 10 til and we're ready to go.  I did a lot of Gravedigger trucks that day, he seemed to be the most popular.

I hope they have us back next year.  I'll know to bring my own setup and to get there SUPER early.  I got there at an hour before start time and they were shutting the gates behind me and would not let anyone else in.

You never know what to expect when it comes down to shutting the line down.  I didn't know if people would be upset, etc... you know how that goes.  But, even though there was a huge crowded line, people accepted the time we were shutting down and it went smoothly. Yay!  Grin

I had a good time.  Smiley

It  sounds like an awesome time!
FYI, I have in my contract that I have a full service booth & they can rent it for free if they do all the set up & break down. If I have to set it up it'll be $100. I also provide all my tables & chairs as I hate using weird set-ups(organizers forget everything). I refuse to work in direct sun & no client should expect you to do it in FL heat. I have in my contract that there must be adequate shelter from the elements(sun, rain, etc.). I also explain that direct sunlight will ruin $1000s of dollars worth of paint(it turns to glop & you use it up 10 times as fast). I lost a lot of paints 2 yrs ago when it was 95 degrees & I was set up in the middle of a field. Never again! I hope this helps!

I do have in the contract that we require overhead shading, etc., but he must not have read that part.  Huh?  But, I hadn't thought about adding the fee for us to bring our own.  Thanks for the FYI! Smiley

Your welcome. I love my tent, but hate setting it up... it makes my face melt off Smiley
Believe me, no one wants to pay the $100 fee, but they don't mind having a few of their guys set it up & break it down. Just give yourself enough time between events because if they don't break down in time, you'll be late.

I try to keep the tent and chairs in the car just in case. I probably wouldn't have worked in the sun, but then again, it depends on how hot, and how much i needed the money HAHAHAH.

Was it the orlando one?

my son loves gravedigger. I am going to have to show him the pic.
