Nice Alison. I checked out your blogspot. I've never thought to sketch a design out first and now I'm hearing and seeing it on this site twice in the same week. Something I'm going to start trying, because I think the results you're getting are so pretty.
When I've had ideas, I've always practiced face painting them on my arm, my own face or a practice head.

It's always nicer to paint it on the face if that's where it's going to end up.
Or the hand if it's meant for there - that sort of thing.
But when I get my idea first onto flat paper, it's easier to stay focused on the design aspects
while I'm playing with 'face-structure' (placement)
